  1. Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
  2. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
  3. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
  4. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
  5. Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
  1. Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.
  2. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.
  3. What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.
  4. For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.
  5. Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.
  1. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
  2. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
  3. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
  4. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
  5. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
  1. Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one.
  2. Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.
  3. But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
  4. But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.
  5. Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.
  1. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
  2. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
  3. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
  4. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
  5. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
  1. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
  2. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
  3. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
  4. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
  5. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.
