- Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
- And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
- Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
- For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
- When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

- ところで 總督は， その 祭りには， 群衆のために， いつも 望みの 囚人をひとりだけ 赦免してやっていた．
- そのころ， バラバ という 名の 知れた 囚人が 捕えられていた．
- それで， 彼らが 集まったとき， ピラト が 言った． 「あなたがたは， だれを 釋放してほしいのか． バラバ か， それとも キリスト と 呼ばれている イエス か． 」
- ピラト は， 彼らがねたみから イエス を 引き 渡したことに 氣づいていたのである．
- また， ピラト が 裁判の 席に 着いていたとき， 彼の 妻が 彼のもとに 人をやって 言わせた． 「あの 正しい 人にはかかわり 合わないでください． ゆうべ， 私は 夢で， あの 人のことで 苦しいめに 會いましたから． 」

- But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
- The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
- Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
- And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
- When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

- しかし， 祭司長， 長老たちは， バラバ のほうを 願うよう， そして， イエス を 死刑にするよう， 群衆を 說きつけた．
- しかし， 總督は 彼らに 答えて 言った． 「あなたがたは， ふたりのうちどちらを 釋放してほしいのか． 」彼らは 言った． 「バラバ だ． 」
- ピラト は 彼らに 言った． 「では， キリスト と 言われている イエス を 私はどのようにしようか． 」彼らはいっせいに 言った． 「十字架につけろ． 」
- だが， ピラト は 言った． 「あの 人がどんな 惡い 事をしたというのか． 」しかし， 彼らはますます 激しく「十字架につけろ． 」と 叫び 續けた．
- そこで ピラト は， 自分では 手の 下しようがなく， かえって 暴動になりそうなのを 見て， 群衆の 目の 前で 水を 取り 寄せ， 手を 洗って， 言った． 「この 人の 血について， 私には 責任がない． 自分たちで 始末するがよい． 」

- Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
- Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
- Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
- And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
- And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

- すると， 民衆はみな 答えて 言った． 「その 人の 血は， 私たちや 子どもたちの 上にかかってもいい． 」
- そこで， ピラト は 彼らのために バラバ を 釋放し， イエス をむち 打ってから， 十字架につけるために 引き 渡した．
- それから， 總督の 兵士たちは， イエス を 官邸の 中に 連れて 行って， イエス の 回りに 全部隊を 集めた．
- そして， イエス の 着物を 脫がせて， 緋色の 上着を 着せた．
- それから， いばらで 冠を 編み， 頭にかぶらせ， 右手に 葦を 持たせた． そして， 彼らは イエス の 前にひざまずいて， からかって 言った． 「ユダヤ 人の 王さま． ばんざい． 」

- And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
- And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

- また 彼らは イエス につばきをかけ， 葦を 取り 上げて イエス の 頭をたたいた．
- こんなふうに， イエス をからかったあげく， その 着物を 脫がせて， もとの 着物を 着せ， 十字架につけるために 連れ 出した．
