- And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
- Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
- And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
- And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
- And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

- それから 間もなく， イエス は ナイン という 町に 行かれた． 弟子たちと 大ぜいの 人の 群れがいっしょに 行った．
- イエス が 町の 門に 近づかれると， やもめとなった 母親のひとり 息子が， 死んでかつぎ 出されたところであった． 町の 人たちが 大ぜいその 母親につき 添っていた．
- 主はその 母親を 見てかわいそうに 思い， 「泣かなくてもよい． 」と 言われた．
- そして 近寄って 棺に 手をかけられると， かついでいた 人たちが 立ち 止まったので， 「靑年よ． あなたに 言う， 起きなさい． 」と 言われた．
- すると， その 死人が 起き 上がって， ものを 言い 始めたので， イエス は 彼を 母親に 返された．

- And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
- And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
- And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
- And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
- When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

- 人¿は 恐れを 抱き， 「大預言者が 私たちのうちに 現われた． 」とか， 「神がその 民を 顧みてくださった． 」などと 言って， 神をあがめた．
- イエス についてこの 話が ユダヤ 全土と 回りの 地方一帶に 廣まった．
- さて， ヨハネ の 弟子たちは， これらのことをすべて ヨハネ に 報告した．
- すると， ヨハネ は， 弟子の 中からふたりを 呼び 寄せて， 主のもとに 送り， 「おいでになるはずの 方は， あなたですか． それとも， 私たちはほかの 方を 待つべきでしょうか． 」と 言わせた．
- ふたりはみもとに 來て 言った． 「バプテスマ の ヨハネ から 遣わされてまいりました． 『おいでになるはずの 方は， あなたですか． それとも 私たちはなおほかの 方を 待つべきでしょうか． 』と ヨハネ が 申しております． 」

- And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
- Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
- And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
- And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
- But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

- ちょうどそのころ， イエス は， 多くの 人¿を 病氣と 苦しみと 惡靈からいやし， また 多くの 盲人を 見えるようにされた．
- そして， 答えてこう 言われた． 「あなたがたは 行って， 自分たちの 見たり 聞いたりしたことを ヨハネ に 報告しなさい． 盲人が 見えるようになり， 足なえが 步き， らい 病人がきよめられ， つんぼの 人が 聞こえ， 死人が 生き 返り， 貧しい 者に 福音が 宣べ 傳えられています．
- だれでも， わたしにつまずかない 者は 幸いです． 」
- ヨハネ の 使いが 歸ってから， イエス は 群衆に， ヨハネ について 話しだされた． 「あなたがたは， 何を 見に 荒野に 出て 行ったのですか． 風に ¿れる 葦ですか．
- でなかったら， 何を 見に 行ったのですか． 柔らかい 着物を 着た 人ですか． きらびやかな 着物を 着て， ぜいたくに 暮らしている 人たちなら 宮殿にいます．

- But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
- This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
- For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
- And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
- But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

- でなかったら， 何を 見に 行ったのですか． 預言者ですか． そのとおり． だが， わたしが 言いましょう． 預言者よりもすぐれた 者をです．
- その 人こそ， 『見よ， わたしは 使いをあなたの 前に 遣わし， あなたの 道を， あなたの 前に 備えさせよう． 』と 書かれているその 人です．
- あなたがたに 言いますが， 女から 生まれた 者の 中で， ヨハネ よりもすぐれた 人は， ひとりもいません． しかし， 神の 國で 一番小さい 者でも， 彼よりすぐれています．
- ヨハネ の 敎えを 聞いたすべての 民は， 取稅人たちさえ， ヨハネ の バプテスマ を 受けて， 神の 正しいことを 認めたのです．
- これに 反して， パリサイ 人， 律法の 專門家たちは， 彼から バプテスマ を 受けないで， 神の 自分たちに 對するみこころを 拒みました．

- And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
- They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
- For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
- The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
- But wisdom is justified of all her children.

- では， この 時代の 人¿は， 何にたとえたらよいでしょう． 何に 似ているでしょう．
- 市場にすわって， 互いに 呼びかけながら， こう 言っている 子どもたちに 似ています． 『笛を 吹いてやっても， 君たちは 踊らなかった． 弔いの 歌を 歌ってやっても， 泣かなかった． 』
- というわけは， バプテスマ の ヨハネ が 來て， パン も 食べず， ぶどう 酒も 飮まずにいると， 『あれは 惡靈につかれている． 』とあなたがたは 言うし，
- 人の 子が 來て， 食べもし， 飮みもすると， 『あれ 見よ． 食いしんぼうの 大酒飮み， 取稅人や 罪人の 仲間だ． 』と 言うのです．
- だが， 知惠の 正しいことは， そのすべての 子どもたちが 證明します． 」
