- After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
- Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
- In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
- For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
- And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

- その 後， ユダヤ 人の 祭りがあって， イエス は エルサレム に 上られた．
- さて， エルサレム には， 羊の 門の 近くに， ヘブル 語で ベテスダ と 呼ばれる 池があって， 五つの 回廊がついていた．
- その 中に 大ぜいの 病人， 盲人， 足なえ， やせ 衰えた 者が 伏せっていた．

- そこに， 三十八年もの 間， 病氣にかかっている 人がいた．

- When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
- The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
- Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
- And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
- The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

- イエス は 彼が 伏せっているのを 見， それがもう 長い 間のことなのを 知って， 彼に 言われた． 「よくなりたいか． 」
- 病人は 答えた． 「主よ． 私には， 水がかき 回されたとき， 池の 中に 私を 入れてくれる 人がいません． 行きかけると， もうほかの 人が 先に 降りて 行くのです． 」
- イエス は 彼に 言われた． 「起きて， 床を 取り 上げて 步きなさい． 」
- すると， その 人はすぐに 直って， 床を 取り 上げて 步き 出した． ところが， その 日は 安息日であった．
- そこで ユダヤ 人たちは， そのいやされた 人に 言った． 「きょうは 安息日だ． 床を 取り 上げてはいけない． 」

- He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
- Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
- And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
- Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
- The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

- しかし， その 人は 彼らに 答えた． 「私を 直してくださった 方が， 『床を 取り 上げて 步け． 』と 言われたのです． 」
- 彼らは 尋ねた． 「『取り 上げて 步け． 』と 言った 人はだれだ． 」
- しかし， いやされた 人は， それがだれであるか 知らなかった． 人が 大ぜいそこにいる 間に， イエス は 立ち 去られたからである．
- その 後， イエス は 宮の 中で 彼を 見つけて 言われた． 「見なさい． あなたはよくなった． もう 罪を 犯してはなりません． そうでないともっと 惡い 事があなたの 身に 起こるから． 」
- その 人は 行って， ユダヤ 人たちに， 自分を 直してくれた 方は イエス だと 告げた．

- And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
- But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
- Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

- このため ユダヤ 人たちは， イエス を 迫害した． イエス が 安息日にこのようなことをしておられたからである．
- イエス は 彼らに 答えられた． 「わたしの 父は 今に 至るまで ¿いておられます． ですからわたしも ¿いているのです． 」
- このため ユダヤ 人たちは， ますます イエス を 殺そうとするようになった． イエス が 安息日を 破っておられただけでなく， ご 自身を 神と 等しくして， 神を 自分の 父と 呼んでおられたからである．
