- And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
- Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
- Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
- But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
- And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

- そのころ， 弟子たちがふえるにつれて， ギリシヤ 語を 使う ユダヤ 人たちが， ヘブル 語を 使う ユダヤ 人たちに 對して 苦情を 申し 立てた． 彼らのうちのやもめたちが， 每日の 配給でなおざりにされていたからである．
- そこで， 十二使徒は 弟子たち 全員を 呼び 集めてこう 言った． 「私たちが 神のことばをあと 回しにして， 食卓のことに 仕えるのはよくありません．
- そこで， 兄弟たち． あなたがたの 中から， 御靈と 知惠とに 滿ちた， 評判の 良い 人たち 七人を 選びなさい． 私たちはその 人たちをこの 仕事に 當たらせることにします．
- そして， 私たちは， もっぱら 祈りとみことばの 奉仕に 勵むことにします． 」
- この 提案は 全員の 承認するところとなり， 彼らは， 信仰と 聖靈とに 滿ちた 人 ステパノ ， および ピリポ ， プロコロ ， ニカノル ， テモン ， パルメナ ， アンテオケ の 改宗者 ニコラオ を 選び，

- Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
- And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
- And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
- Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
- And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

- この 人たちを 使徒たちの 前に 立たせた． そこで 使徒たちは 祈って， 手を 彼らの 上に 置いた．
- こうして 神のことばは， ますます 廣まって 行き， エルサレム で， 弟子の 數が 非常にふえて 行った． そして， 多くの 祭司たちが 次¿に 信仰にはいった．
- さて， ステパノ は 惠みと 力とに 滿ち， 人¿の 間で， すばらしい 不思議なわざとしるしを 行なっていた．
- ところが， いわゆる リベルテン の 會堂に 屬する 人¿で， クレネ 人， アレキサンドリヤ 人， キリキヤ や アジヤ から 來た 人¿などが 立ち 上がって， ステパノ と 議論した．
- しかし， 彼が 知惠と 御靈によって 語っていたので， それに 對抗することができなかった．

- Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
- And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
- And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
- For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
- And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

- そこで， 彼らはある 人¿をそそのかし， 「私たちは 彼が モ ― セ と 神とをけがすことばを 語るのを 聞いた． 」と 言わせた．
- また， 民衆と 長老たちと 律法學者たちを 扇動し， 彼を 襲って 捕え， 議會にひっぱって 行った．
- そして， 僞りの 證人たちを 立てて， こう 言わせた． 「この 人は， この 聖なる 所と 律法とに 逆らうことばを 語るのをやめません．
- 『あの ナザレ 人 イエス はこの 聖なる 所をこわし， モ ― セ が 私たちに 傳えた 慣例を 變えてしまう． 』と 彼が 言うのを， 私たちは 聞きました． 」
- 議會で 席に 着いていた 人¿はみな， ステパノ に 目を 注いだ． すると 彼の 顔は 御使いの 顔のように 見えた．
