- And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
- And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
- Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
- But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
- For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

- 私たちが ロ ― マ にはいると， パウロ は 番兵付きで 自分だけの 家に 住むことが 許された．
- 三日の 後， パウロ は ユダヤ 人のおもだった 人たちを 呼び 集め， 彼らが 集まったときに， こう 言った． 「兄弟たち． 私は， 私の 國民に 對しても， 先祖の 慣習に 對しても， 何一つそむくことはしていないのに， エルサレム で 囚人として ロ ― マ 人の 手に 渡されました．
- ロ ― マ 人は 私を 取り 調べましたが， 私を 死刑にする 理由が 何もなかったので， 私を 釋放しようと 思ったのです．
- ところが， ユダヤ 人が 反對したため， 私はやむなく カイザル に 上訴しました． それは， 私の 同胞を 訴えようとしたのではありません．
- このようなわけで， 私は， あなたがたに 會ってお 話ししようと 思い， お 招きしました． 私は イスラエル の 望みのためにこの 鎖につながれているのです． 」

- And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
- But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
- And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
- And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
- And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

- すると， 彼らはこう 言った． 「私たちは， あなたのことについて， ユダヤ から 何の 知らせも 受けておりません． また， 當地に 來た 兄弟たちの 中で， あなたについて 惡いことを 告げたり， 話したりした 者はおりません．
- 私たちは， あなたが 考えておられることを， 直接あなたから 聞くのがよいと 思っています． この 宗派については， 至る 所で 非難があることを 私たちは 知っているからです． 」
- そこで， 彼らは 日を 定めて， さらに 大ぜいで パウロ の 宿にやって 來た． 彼は 朝から 晩まで 語り 續けた． 神の 國のことをあかしし， また， モ ― セ の 律法と 預言者たちの 書によって， イエス のことについて 彼らを 說得しようとした．
- ある 人¿は 彼の 語る 事を 信じたが， ある 人¿は 信じようとしなかった．
- こうして， 彼らは， お 互いの 意見が 一致せずに 歸りかけたので， パウロ は 一言， 次のように 言った． 「聖靈が 預言者 イザヤ を 通してあなたがたの 先祖に 語られたことは， まさにそのとおりでした．

- Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
- For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
- Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
- And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
- And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

- 『この 民のところに 行って， 告げよ． あなたがたは 確かに 聞きはするが， 決して 悟らない． 確かに 見てはいるが， 決してわからない．
- この 民の 心は 鈍くなり， その 耳は 遠く， その 目はつぶっているからである． それは， 彼らがその 目で 見， その 耳で 聞き， その 心で 悟って， 立ち 返り， わたしにいやされることのないためである． 』
- ですから， 承知しておいてください． 神のこの 救いは， 異邦人に 送られました． 彼らは， 耳を 傾けるでしょう． 」

- こうして パウロ は 滿二年の 間， 自費で 借りた 家に 住み， たずねて 來る 人たちをみな 迎えて，

- Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

- 大膽に， 少しも 妨げられることなく， 神の 國を 宣べ 傳え， 主 イエス · キリスト のことを 敎えた．
