- Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
- I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
- Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
- But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
- But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

- 處女のことについて， 私は 主の 命令を 受けてはいませんが， 主のあわれみによって 信賴できる 者として， 意見を 述べます．
- 現在の 危急のときには， 男はそのままの 狀態にとどまるのがよいと 思います．
- あなたが 妻に 結ばれているなら， 解かれたいと 考えてはいけません． 妻に 結ばれていないのなら， 妻を 得たいと 思ってはいけません．
- しかし， たといあなたが 結婚したからといって， 罪を 犯すのではありません． たとい 處女が 結婚したからといって， 罪を 犯すのではありません． ただ， それらの 人¿は， その 身に 苦難を 招くでしょう． 私はあなたがたを， そのようなめに 會わせたくないのです．
- 兄弟たちよ． 私は 次のことを 言いたいのです． 時は 縮まっています． 今からは， 妻のある 者は， 妻のない 者のようにしていなさい．

- And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
- And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
- But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
- But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
- There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

- 泣く 者は 泣かない 者のように， 喜ぶ 者は 喜ばない 者のように， 買う 者は 所有しない 者のようにしていなさい．
- 世の 富を 用いる 者は 用いすぎないようにしなさい． この 世の 有樣は 過ぎ 去るからです．
- あなたがたが 思い 煩わないことを 私は 望んでいます． 獨身の 男は， どうしたら 主に 喜ばれるかと， 主のことに 心を 配ります．
- しかし， 結婚した 男は， どうしたら 妻に 喜ばれるかと 世のことに 心を 配り，
- 心が 分かれるのです． 獨身の 女や 處女は， 身もたましいも 聖くなるため， 主のことに 心を 配りますが， 結婚した 女は， どうしたら 夫に 喜ばれるかと， 世のことに 心を 配ります．

- And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
- But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
- Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
- So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
- The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

- ですが， 私がこう 言っているのは， あなたがた 自身の 益のためであって， あなたがたを 束縛しようとしているのではありません． むしろあなたがたが 秩序ある 生活を 送って， ひたすら 主に 奉仕できるためなのです．
- もし， 處女である 自分の 娘の 婚期も 過ぎようとしていて， そのままでは， 娘に 對しての 扱い 方が 正しくないと 思い， またやむをえないことがあるならば， その 人は， その 心のままにしなさい． 罪を 犯すわけではありません． 彼らに 結婚させなさい．
- しかし， もし 心のうちに 堅く 決意しており， ほかに 强いられる 事情もなく， また 自分の 思うとおりに 行なうことのできる 人が， 處女である 自分の 娘をそのままにしておくのなら， そのことはりっぱです．
- ですから， 處女である 自分の 娘を 結婚させる 人は 良いことをしているのであり， また 結婚させない 人は， もっと 良いことをしているのです．
- 妻は 夫が 生きている 間は 夫に 縛られています． しかし， もし 夫が 死んだなら， 自分の 願う 人と 結婚する 自由があります． ただ 主にあってのみ， そうなのです．

- But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

- 私の 意見では， もしそのままにしていられたら， そのほうがもっと 幸いです． 私も， 神の 御靈をいただいていると 思います．
