- Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
- If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
- Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
- Have we not power to eat and to drink?
- Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

- 私には 自由がないでしょうか． 私は 使徒ではないのでしょうか． 私は 私たちの 主 イエス を 見たのではないでしょうか． あなたがたは， 主にあって 私の ¿きの 實ではありませんか．
- たとい 私がほかの 人¿に 對しては 使徒でなくても， 少なくともあなたがたに 對しては 使徒です． あなたがたは， 主にあって， 私が 使徒であることの 證印です．
- 私をさばく 人たちに 對して， 私は 次のように 弁明します．
- いったい 私たちには 飮み 食いする 權利がないのでしょうか．
- 私たちには， ほかの 使徒， 主の 兄弟たち， ケパ などと 違って， 信者である 妻を 連れて 步く 權利がないのでしょうか．

- Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
- Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
- Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
- For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
- Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

- それともまた， 私と バルナバ だけには， 生活のための ¿きをやめる 權利がないのでしょうか．
- いったい 自分の 費用で 兵士になる 者がいるでしょうか． 自分でぶどう 園を 造りながら， その 實を 食べない 者がいるでしょうか． 羊の 群れを 飼いながら， その 乳を 飮まない 者がいるでしょうか．
- 私がこんなことを 言うのは， 人間の 考えによって 言っているのでしょうか． 律法も 同じことを 言っているではありませんか．
- モ ― セ の 律法には， 「穀物をこなしている 牛に， くつこを 掛けてはいけない． 」と 書いてあります． いったい 神は， 牛のことを 氣にかけておられるのでしょうか．
- それとも， もっぱら 私たちのために， こう 言っておられるのでしょうか． むろん， 私たちのためにこう 書いてあるのです． なぜなら， 耕す 者が 望みを 持って 耕し， 脫穀する 者が 分配を 受ける 望みを 持って 仕事をするのは 當然だからです．

- If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
- If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
- Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
- Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
- But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

- もし 私たちが， あなたがたに 御靈のものを 蒔いたのであれば， あなたがたから 物質的なものを 刈り 取ることは 行き 過ぎでしょうか．
- もし， ほかの 人¿が， あなたがたに 對する 權利にあずかっているのなら， 私たちはなおさらその 權利を 用いてよいはずではありませんか． それなのに， 私たちはこの 權利を 用いませんでした． かえって， すべてのことについて 耐え 忍んでいます． それは， キリスト の 福音に 少しの 妨げも 與えまいとしてなのです．
- あなたがたは， 宮に 奉仕している 者が 宮の 物を 食べ， 祭壇に 仕える 者が 祭壇の 物にあずかることを 知らないのですか．
- 同じように， 主も， 福音を 宣べ 傳える 者が， 福音の ¿きから 生活のささえを 得るように 定めておられます．
- しかし， 私はこれらの 權利を 一つも 用いませんでした． また， 私は 自分がそうされたくてこのように 書いているのでもありません． 私は 自分の 誇りをだれかに 奪われるよりは， 死んだほうがましだからです．

- For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
- For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
- What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

- というのは， 私が 福音を 宣べ 傳えても， それは 私の 誇りにはなりません． そのことは， 私がどうしても， しなければならないことだからです． もし 福音を 宣べ 傳えなかったら， 私はわざわいに 會います．
- もし 私がこれを 自發的にしているのなら， 報いがありましょう． しかし， 强いられたにしても， 私には 務めがゆだねられているのです．
- では， 私にどんな 報いがあるのでしょう． それは， 福音を 宣べ 傳えるときに 報酬を 求めないで 與え， 福音の ¿きによって 持つ 自分の 權利を 十分に 用いないことなのです．
