에스더 3:1-5:14

 신분이 높아진 하만에게 모르드개가 절하지 않자, 이에 앙심을 품은 하만은 모르드개와 그의 민족 유다인들을 죽일 음모를 꾸며 왕의 조서를 받아냈다. 이 사실을 안 모르드개와 유다인들은 애통하며 금식하였고, 왕후 에스더는 죽음을 각오하고 왕께 나아가 하만과 함께 잔치에 참석해 줄 것을 간청했다. 그러나 하만은 모르드개를 처형할 계획을 세웠다.
  
  하만의 유다인 박멸 계획(3:1-3:15)    
 
  1. After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
  2. And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.
  3. Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?
  4. Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
  5. And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
  1. この 出來事の 後， アハシュエロス 王は， アガグ 人 ハメダタ の 子 ハマン を 重んじ， 彼を 昇進させて， その 席を， 彼とともにいるすべての 首長たちの 上に 置いた．
  2. それで， 王の 門のところにいる 王の 家來たちはみな， ハマン に 對してひざをかがめてひれ 伏した． 王が 彼についてこのように 命じたからである． しかし， モルデカイ はひざもかがめず， ひれ 伏そうともしなかった．
  3. 王の 門のところにいる 王の 家來たちは モルデカイ に， 「あなたはなぜ， 王の 命令にそむくのか． 」と 言った．
  4. 彼らは， 每日そう 言ったが， モルデカイ が 耳を 貸さなかったので， モルデカイ のこの 態度が 續けられてよいものかどうかを 見ようと， これを ハマン に 告げた． モルデカイ は 自分が ユダヤ 人であることを 彼らに 打ち 明けていたからである．
  5. ハマン は モルデカイ が 自分に 對してひざもかがめず， ひれ 伏そうともしないのを 見て， 憤りに 滿たされた．
  1. And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.
  2. In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
  3. And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.
  4. If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries.
  5. And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.
  1. ところが， ハマン は モルデカイ ひとりに 手を 下すことだけで 滿足しなかった． 彼らが モルデカイ の 民族のことを， ハマン に 知らせていたからである． それで ハマン は， アハシュエロス の 王國中のすべての ユダヤ 人， すなわち モルデカイ の 民族を， 根絶やしにしようとした．
  2. アハシュエロス 王の 第十二年の 第一の 月， すなわち ニサン の 月に， 日と 月とを 決めるために ハマン の 前で， プル ， すなわちくじが 投げられ， くじは 第十二の 月， すなわち アダル の 月に 當たった．
  3. ハマン は アハシュエロス 王に 言った． 「あなたの 王國のすべての 州にいる 諸民族の 間に， 散らされて 離れ 離れになっている 一つの 民族がいます． 彼らの 法令は， どの 民族のものとも 違っていて， 彼らは 王の 法令を 守っていません． それで， 彼らをそのままにさせておくことは， 王のためになりません．
  4. もしも 王さま， よろしければ， 彼らを 滅ぼすようにと 書いてください． 私はその 仕事をする 者たちに 銀一万 タラント を 量って 渡します． そうして， それを 王の 金庫に 納めさせましょう． 」
  5. そこで， 王は 自分の 手から 指輪をはずして， アガグ 人 ハメダタ の 子で， ユダヤ 人の 敵である ハマン に， それを 渡した．
  1. And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.
  2. Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.
  3. And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
  4. The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.
  5. The posts went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.
  1. そして， 王は ハマン に 言った． 「その 銀はあなたに 授けよう． また， その 民族もあなたの 好きなようにしなさい． 」
  2. そこで， 第一の 月の 十三日に， 王の 書記官が 召集され， ハマン が， 王の 太守や， 各州を 治めている 總督や， 各民族の 首長たちに 命じたことが 全部， 各州にはその 文字で， 各民族にはそのことばでしるされた． それは， アハシュエロス の 名で 書かれ， 王の 指輪で 印が 押された．
  3. 書簡は 急使によって 王のすべての 州へ 送られた． それには， 第十二の 月， すなわち アダル の 月の 十三日の 一日のうちに， 若い 者も 年寄りも， 子どもも 女も， すべての ユダヤ 人を 根絶やしにし， 殺害し， 滅ぼし， 彼らの 家財をかすめ 奪えとあった．
  4. 各州に 法令として 發布される 文書の 寫しが， この 日の 準備のために， すべての 民族に 公示された．
  5. 急使は 王の 命令によって 急いで 出て 行った． この 法令は シュシャン の 城でも 發布された． このとき， 王と ハマン は 酒をくみかわしていたが， シュシャン の 町は 混亂に 陷った．
 
  에스더와 모르드개(4:1-4:17)    
 
  1. When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
  2. And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth.
  3. And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
  4. So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
  5. Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
  1. モルデカイ は， なされたすべてのことを 知った． すると， モルデカイ は 着物を 引き 裂き， 荒布をまとい， 灰をかぶり， 大聲でひどくわめき 叫びながら 町の 眞中に 出て 行き，
  2. 王の 門の 前まで 來た． だれも 荒布をまとったままでは， 王の 門にはいることができなかったからである．
  3. 王の 命令とその 法令が 屆いたどの 州においても， ユダヤ 人のうちに 大きな 悲しみと， 斷食と， 泣き 聲と， 嘆きとが 起こり， 多くの 者は 荒布を 着て 灰の 上にすわった．
  4. そのとき， エステル の 侍女たちと， その 宦官たちがはいって 來て， 彼女にこのことを 告げたので， 王妃はひどく 悲しみ， モルデカイ に 着物を 送って， それを 着させ， 荒布を 脫がせようとしたが， 彼はそれを 受け 取らなかった．
  5. そこで エステル は， 王の 宦官のひとりで， 王が 彼女に 仕えさせるために 任命していた ハタク を 呼び 寄せ， モルデカイ のところへ 行って， これはどういうわけか， また 何のためかと 聞いて 來るように 命じた．
  1. So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate.
  2. And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
  3. Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
  4. And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
  5. Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
  1. それで， ハタク は 王の 門の 前の 町の 廣場にいる モルデカイ のところに 出て 行った．
  2. モルデカイ は 自分の 身に 起こったことを 全部， 彼に 告げ， ハマン が ユダヤ 人を 滅ぼすために， 王の 金庫に 納めると 約束した 正確な 金額をも 告げた．
  3. モルデカイ はまた， ユダヤ 人を 滅ぼすために シュシャン で 發布された 法令の 文書の 寫しを ハタク に 渡し， それを エステル に 見せて， 事情を 知らせてくれと 言い， また， 彼女が 王のところに 行って， 自分の 民族のために 王にあわれみを 求めるように 彼女に 言いつけてくれと 賴んだ．
  4. ハタク は 歸って 來て， モルデカイ の 傳言を エステル に 傳えた．
  5. すると エステル は ハタク に 命じて， モルデカイ にこう 傳えさせた．
  1. All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or women, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
  2. And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.
  3. Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
  4. For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
  5. Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
  1. 「王の 家臣も， 王の 諸州の 民族もみな， 男でも 女でも， だれでも， 召されないで 內庭にはいり， 王のところに 行く 者は 死刑に 處せられるという 一つの 法令があることを 知っております． しかし， 王がその 者に 金の ヴ を 差し 伸ばせば， その 者は 生きます． でも， 私はこの 三十日間， まだ， 王のところへ 行くようにと 召されていません． 」
  2. 彼が エステル のことばを モルデカイ に 傳えると，
  3. モルデカイ は エステル に 返事を 送って 言った． 「あなたはすべての ユダヤ 人から 離れて 王宮にいるから 助かるだろうと 考えてはならない．
  4. もし， あなたがこのような 時に 沈默を 守るなら， 別の 所から， 助けと 救いが ユダヤ 人のために 起ころう． しかしあなたも， あなたの 父の 家も 滅びよう． あなたがこの 王國に 來たのは， もしかすると， この 時のためであるかもしれない． 」
  5. エステル は モルデカイ に 返事を 送って 言った．
  1. Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
  2. So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
  1. 「行って， シュシャン にいる ユダヤ 人をみな 集め， 私のために 斷食をしてください． 三日三晩， 食べたり 飮んだりしないように． 私も， 私の 侍女たちも， 同じように 斷食をしましょう． たとい 法令にそむいても 私は 王のところへまいります． 私は， 死ななければならないのでしたら， 死にます． 」
  2. そこで， モルデカイ は 出て 行って， エステル が 彼に 命じたとおりにした．
 
  에스더의 간청(5:1-5:14)    
 
  1. Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
  2. And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.
  3. Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.
  4. And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.
  5. Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
  1. さて， 三日目に エステル は 王妃の 衣裝を 着て， 王室の 正面にある 王宮の 內庭に 立った． 王は 王室の 入口の 正面にある 王宮の 玉座にすわっていた．
  2. 王が， 庭に 立っている 王妃 エステル を 見たとき， 彼女は 王の 好意を 受けたので， 王は 手に 持っていた 金の ヴ を エステル に 差し 伸ばした． そこで， エステル は 近寄って， その ヴ の 先にさわった．
  3. 王は 彼女に 言った． 「どうしたのだ． 王妃 エステル ． 何がほしいのか． 王國の 半分でも， あなたにやれるのだが． 」
  4. エステル は 答えた． 「もしも， 王さまがよろしければ， きょう， 私が 王さまのために 設ける 宴會に ハマン とごいっしょにお 越しください． 」
  5. すると， 王は， 「ハマン をせきたてて， エステル の 言ったようにしよう． 」と 言った． 王と ハマン は エステル が 設けた 宴會に 出た．
  1. And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.
  2. Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;
  3. If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.
  4. Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.
  5. Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.
  1. その 酒宴の 席上， 王は エステル に 尋ねた． 「あなたは 何を 願っているのか． それを 授けてやろう． 何を 望んでいるのか． 王國の 半分でも， それをかなえてやろう． 」
  2. エステル は 答えて 言った． 「私が 願い， 望んでいることは，
  3. もしも 王さまのお 許しが 得られ， 王さまがよろしくて， 私の 願いをゆるし， 私の 望みをかなえていただけますなら， 私が 設ける 宴會に， ハマン とごいっしょに， もう 一度お 越しください． そうすれば， あす， 私は 王さまのおっしゃったとおりにいたします． 」
  4. ハマン はその 日， 喜び， 上きげんで 出て 行った． ところが， ハマン は， 王の 門のところにいる モルデカイ が 立ち 上がろうともせず， 自分を 少しも 恐れていないのを 見て， モルデカイ に 對する 憤りに 滿たされた．
  5. しかし， ハマン はがまんして 家に 歸り， 人をやって， 友人たちと 妻 ゼレシュ を 連れて 來させた．
  1. And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.
  2. Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.
  3. Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.
  4. Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.
  1. ハマン は 自分の 輝かしい 富について， また， 子どもが 大ぜいいることや， 王が 自分を 重んじ， 王の 首長や 家臣たちの 上に 自分を 昇進させてくれたことなどを 全部彼らに 話した．
  2. そして， ハマン は 言った． 「しかも， 王妃 エステル は， 王妃が 設けた 宴會に， 私のほかはだれも 王といっしょに 來させなかった． あすもまた， 私は 王といっしょに 王妃に 招かれている．
  3. しかし， 私が， 王の 門のところにすわっているあの ユダヤ 人 モルデカイ を 見なければならない 間は， これらのことはいっさい 私のためにならない． 」
  4. すると， 彼の 妻 ゼレシュ とすべての 友人たちは， 彼に 言った． 「高さ 五十 キュビト の 柱を 立てさせ， あしたの 朝， 王に 話して， モルデカイ をそれにかけ， それから， 王といっしょに 喜んでその 宴會においでなさい． 」この 進言は ハマン の 氣に 入ったので， 彼はその 柱を 立てさせた．
