- For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
- To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
- Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
- Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
- And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

- この メルキゼデク は， サレム の 王で， すぐれて 高い 神の 祭司でしたが， アブラハム が 王たちを 打ち 破って 歸るのを 出迎えて 祝福しました．
- また アブラハム は 彼に， すべての 戰利品の 十分の 一を 分けました． まず 彼は， その 名を 譯すと 義の 王であり， 次に， サレム の 王， すなわち 平和の 王です．
- 父もなく， 母もなく， 系圖もなく， その 生涯の 初めもなく， いのちの 終わりもなく， 神の 子に 似た 者とされ， いつまでも 祭司としてとどまっているのです．
- その 人がどんなに 偉大であるかを， よく 考えてごらんなさい． 族長である アブラハム でさえ， 彼に 一番良い 戰利品の 十分の 一を 與えたのです．
- レビ の 子らの 中で 祭司職を 受ける 者たちは， 自分も アブラハム の 子孫でありながら， 民から， すなわち 彼らの 兄弟たちから， 十分の 一を 徵集するようにと， 律法の 中で 命じられています．

- But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
- And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
- And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
- And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
- For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

- ところが， レビ 族の 系圖にない 者が， アブラハム から 十分の 一を 取って， 約束を 受けた 人を 祝福したのです．
- いうまでもなく， 下位の 者が 上位の 者から 祝福されるのです．
- 一方では， 死ぬべき 人間が 十分の 一を 受けていますが， 他のばあいは， 彼は 生きているとあかしされている 者が 受けるのです．
- また， いうならば， 十分の 一を 受け 取る レビ でさえ アブラハム を 通して 十分の 一を 納めているのです．
- というのは， メルキゼデク が アブラハム を 出迎えたときには， レビ はまだ 父の 腰の 中にいたからです．

- If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
- For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
- For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
- For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
- And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

- さて， もし レビ 系の 祭司職によって 完全に 到達できたのだったら， ··民はそれを 基礎として 律法を 與えられたのです． ··それ 以上何の 必要があって， アロン の 位でなく， メルキゼデク の 位に 等しいと 呼ばれる 他の 祭司が 立てられたのでしょうか．
- 祭司職が 變われば， 律法も 必ず 變わらなければなりませんが，
- 私たちが 今まで 論じて 來たその 方は， 祭壇に 仕える 者を 出したことのない 別の 部族に 屬しておられるのです．
- 私たちの 主が， ユダ 族から 出られたことは 明らかですが， モ ― セ は， この 部族については， 祭司に 關することを 何も 述べていません．
- もし メルキゼデク に 等しい， 別の 祭司が 立てられるのなら， 以上のことは， いよいよ 明らかになります．

- Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
- For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

- その 祭司は， 肉についての 戒めである 律法にはよらないで， 朽ちることのない， いのちの 力によって 祭司となったのです．
- この 方については， こうあかしされています． 「あなたは， とこしえに， メルキゼデク の 位に 等しい 祭司である． 」
