- Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
- And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
- Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
- For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
- When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

- さて， 祭のたびごとに， 總督は 群衆が 願い 出る 囚人ひとりを， ゆるしてやる 慣例になっていた．
- ときに， バラバ という 評判の 囚人がいた．
- それで， 彼らが 集まったとき， ピラト は 言った， 「おまえたちは， だれをゆるしてほしいのか． バラバ か， それとも， キリスト といわれる イエス か 」．
- 彼らが イエス を 引きわたしたのは， ねたみのためであることが， ピラト にはよくわかっていたからである．
- また， ピラト が 裁判の 席についていたとき， その 妻が 人を 彼のもとにつかわして， 「あの 義人には 關係しないでください． わたしはきょう 夢で， あの 人のためにさんざん 苦しみましたから 」と 言わせた．

- But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
- The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
- Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
- And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
- When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

- しかし， 祭司長， 長老たちは， バラバ をゆるして， イエス を 殺してもらうようにと， 群衆を 說き 伏せた．
- 總督は 彼らにむかって 言った， 「ふたりのうち， どちらをゆるしてほしいのか 」． 彼らは「バラバ の 方を 」と 言った．
- ピラト は 言った， 「それでは キリスト といわれる イエス は， どうしたらよいか 」． 彼らはいっせいに「十字架につけよ 」と 言った．
- しかし， ピラト は 言った， 「あの 人は， いったい， どんな 惡事をしたのか 」． すると 彼らはいっそう 激しく 叫んで， 「十字架につけよ 」と 言った．
- ピラト は 手のつけようがなく， かえって 暴動になりそうなのを 見て， 水を 取り， 群衆の 前で 手を 洗って 言った， 「この 人の 血について， わたしには 責任がない． おまえたちが 自分で 始末をするがよい 」．

- Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
- Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
- Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
- And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
- And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

- すると， 民衆全體が 答えて 言った， 「その 血の 責任は， われわれとわれわれの 子孫の 上にかかってもよい 」．
- そこで， ピラト は バラバ をゆるしてやり， イエス をむち 打ったのち， 十字架につけるために 引きわたした．
- それから 總督の 兵士たちは， イエス を 官邸に 連れて 行って， 全部隊を イエス のまわりに 集めた．
- そしてその 上着をぬがせて， 赤い 外套を 着せ，
- また， いばらで 冠を 編んでその 頭にかぶらせ， 右の 手には 葦の 棒を 持たせ， それからその 前にひざまずき， 嘲弄して， 「ユダヤ 人の 王， ばんざい 」と 言った．

- And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
- And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

- また， イエス につばきをかけ， 葦の 棒を 取りあげてその 頭をたたいた．
- こうして イエス を 嘲弄したあげく， 外套をはぎ 取って 元の 上着を 着せ， それから 十字架につけるために 引き 出した．
