	신명기 9:1-10:22 모세는 이스라엘이 가나안에 들어가서 그 땅을 차지하게 된 것은 그들이 다른 족속보다 더 의로워서가 아님을 강조하면서 그들이 광야 40년 동안 얼마나 완악했는가를 회상시켰다. 이와 같이 백성들에게 과거를 상기시킨 이유는 그들이 가나안에 들어간 후 교만하여 하나님을 잊어버릴 것을 염려해서였다. 모세는 백성들에게 마음의 할례를 받아 다시는 목이 곧은 백성이 되지 말고 하나님만을 사랑하라고 권면했다.

	이스라엘의 거역(9:1-9:29)

Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!

Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.

Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

イスラエルよ，聞きなさい．あなたは，きょう，ヨルダンを渡って行って，あなたよりも大きく，かつ强い國¿を取ろうとしている．その町¿は大きく，石がきは天に達している．

その民は，あなたの知っているアナクびとの子孫であって，大きく，また背が高い．あなたはまた『アナクの子孫の前に，だれが立つことができようか』と人の言うのを聞いた．

あなたの神，主があなたの前から彼らを追い拂われた後に，あなたは心のなかで『わたしが正しいから主はわたしをこの地に導き入れてこれを獲させられた』と言ってはならない．この國¿の民が惡いから，主はこれをあなたの前から追い拂われるのである．

あなたが行ってその地を獲るのは，あなたが正しいからではなく，またあなたの心がまっすぐだからでもない．この國¿の民が惡いから，あなたの神，主は彼らをあなたの前から追い拂われるのである．これは主があなたの先祖アブラハム，イサク，ヤコブに誓われた言葉を行われるためである．

Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.

Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.

When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:

And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

それであなたは，あなたの神，主があなたにこの良い地を與えてこれを得させられるのは，あなたが正しいからではないことを知らなければならない．あなたは强情な民である．

あなたは荒野であなたの神，主を怒らせたことを覺え，それを忘れてはならない．あなたがたはエジプトの地を出た日からこの所に來るまで，いつも主にそむいた．

またホレブにおいてさえ，あなたがたが主を怒らせたので，主は怒ってあなたがたを滅ぼそうとされた．

わたしが石の板すなわち主があなたがたと結ばれた契約の板を受けるために山に登った時，わたしは四十日四十夜，山にいて，パンも食べず水も飮まなかった．

主は神の指をもって書きしるした石の板二枚をわたしに授けられた．その上には，集會の日に主が山で火の中から，あなたがたに告げられた言葉が，ことごとく書いてあった．

And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.

And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.

Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.

So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.

すなわち四十日四十夜が終った時，主はわたしにその契約の板である石の板二枚を授け，

そして主はわたしに言われた，『おまえは立って，すみやかにこの所から降りなさい．おまえがエジプトから導き出した民は惡を行ったからである．彼らはわたしが命じた道を早くも離れて，鑄た像を自分たちのために造った』．

主はまたわたしに言われた，『この民を見るのに，これは强情な民である．

わたしを止めるな．わたしは彼らを滅ぼし，彼らの名を天の下から消し去り，おまえを彼らよりも强く，かつ大いなる國民としよう』．

そこでわたしは身をめぐらして山を降りたが，山は火で燒けていた．契約の板二枚はわたしの兩手にあった．

And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.

And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.

And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also.

And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

そしてわたしが見ると，あなたがたは，あなたがたの神，主にむかって罪を犯し，自分たちのために鑄物の子牛を造って，主が命じられた道を早くも離れたので，

わたしはその二枚の板をつかんで，兩手から投げ出し，あなたがたの目の前でこれを ¿いた．

そしてわたしは前のように四十日四十夜，主の前にひれ伏し，パンも食べず，水も飮まなかった．これはあなたがたが主の目の前に惡をおこない，罪を犯して主を怒らせたすべての罪によるのである．

主は怒りを發し，憤りを起し，あなたがたを怒って滅ぼそうとされたので，わたしは恐れたが，その時もまた主はわたしの願いを聞かれた．

主はまた，はなはだしくアロンを怒って，彼を滅ぼそうとされたが，わたしはその時もまたアロンのために祈った．

And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibrothhattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath.

Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.

Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

わたしはあなたがたが造って罪を得た子牛を取り，それを火で燒き，それを擊ち ¿き，よくひいて細かいちりとし，そのちりを山から流れ下る谷川に投げ捨てた．

あなたがたはタベラ，マッサおよびキブロテ · ハッタワにおいてもまた主を怒らせた．

また主はカデシ · バルネアから，あなたがたをつかわそうとされた時，『上って行って，わたしが與える地を占領せよ』と言われた．ところが，あなたがたはあなたがたの神，主の命令にそむき，彼を信ぜず，また彼の聲に聞き從わなかった．

I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:

Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.

わたしは主に祈って言った，『主なる神よ，あなたが大いなる力をもってあがない，强い手をもってエジプトから導き出されたあなたの民，あなたの嗣業を滅ぼさないでください．

あなたのしもべアブラハム，イサク，ヤコブを覺えてください．この民の强情と惡と罪とに目をとめないでください．

あなたがわれわれを導き出された國の人はおそらく，「主は，約束した地に彼らを導き入れることができず，また彼らを憎んだので，彼らを導き出して荒野で殺したのだ」と言うでしょう．

At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood.

And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark.

And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand.

And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.

And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.

その時，主はわたしに言われた，『おまえは，前のような石の板二枚を切って作り，山に登って，わたしのもとにきなさい．また木の箱一つを作りなさい．

さきにおまえが ¿いた二枚の板に書いてあった言葉を，わたしはその板に書きしるそう．おまえはそれをその箱におさめなければならない』．

そこでわたしはアカシヤ材の箱一つを作り，また前のような石の板二枚を切って作り，その二枚の板を手に持って山に登った．

主はかつて，かの集會の日に山で火の中からあなたがたに告げられた十 ·を書きしるされたように，その板に書きしるし，それを主はわたしに授けられた．

それでわたしは身をめぐらして山から降り，その板を，わたしが作った箱におさめた．今なおその中にある．主がわたしに命じられたとおりである．

And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead.

From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters.

At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.

Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.

And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee.

（こうしてイスラエルの人¿はベエロテ · ベネ · ヤカンを出立してモセラに着いた．アロンはその所で死んでそこに葬られ，その子エレアザルが彼に代って祭司となった．

And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them.

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD's thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.

Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.

そして主はわたしに『おまえは立ちあがり，民に先立って進み行き，わたしが彼らに與えると，その先祖に誓った地に彼らをはいらせ，それを取らせよ』と言われた．

イスラエルよ，今，あなたの神，主があなたに求められる事はなんであるか．ただこれだけである．すなわちあなたの神，主を恐れ，そのすべての道に步んで，彼を愛し，心をつくし，精神をつくしてあなたの神，主に仕え，

また，わたしがきょうあなたに命じる主の命令と定めとを守って，さいわいを得ることである．

見よ，天と，もろもろの天の天，および地と，地にあるものとはみな，あなたの神，主のものである．

そうであるのに，主はただあなたの先祖たちを喜び愛し，その後の子孫であるあなたがたを万民のうちから選ばれた．今日見るとおりである．

Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

それゆえ，あなたがたは心に割禮をおこない，もはや强情であってはならない．

あなたがたの神である主は，神の神，主の主，大いにして力ある恐るべき神にましまし，人をかたより見ず，また，まいないを取らず，

みなし子とやもめのために正しいさばきを行い，また寄留の他國人を愛して，食物と着物を與えられるからである．

それゆえ，あなたがたは寄留の他國人を愛しなさい．あなたがたもエジプトの國で寄留の他國人であった．

あなたの神，主を恐れ，彼に仕え，彼に從い，その名をさして誓わなければならない．

He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.

彼はあなたのさんびすべきもの，またあなたの神であって，あなたが目に見たこれらの大いなる恐るべき事を，あなたのために行われた．
