	신명기 17:1-19:14 모세는 백성들에게 우상 숭배자에 대한 처벌과 재판, 왕으로 세움받은 자의 행실에 관한 규정을 지시해 주었다. 그리고 기업을 분배받지 못하는 레위 지파에게는 하나님께서 친히 기업이 되신다는 것을 밝히고, 이방 종교의 영매나 복술자를 용납하지 말고 하나님께서 보내실 선지자를 청종할 것을 명했다. 또한 과실 치사를 범한 자들이 피할 도피성을 택정하고 토지의 경계표를 옮기지 말 것을 명했다.

	재판과 왕에 대한 규례(17:1-17:20)

Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness: for that is an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

すべて傷があり，欠けた所のある牛または羊はあなたの神，主にささげてはならない．そのようなものはあなたの神，主の忌みきらわれるものだからである．

あなたの神，主が賜わる町で，あなたがたのうちに，もし男子または女子があなたの神，主の前に惡事をおこなって，契約にそむき，

行って他の神¿に仕え，それを拜み，わたしの禁じる，日や月やその他の天の万象を拜むことがあり，

その事を知らせる者があって，あなたがそれを聞くならば，あなたはそれをよく調べなければならない．そしてその事が眞實であり，そのような憎むべき事が確かにイスラエルのうちに行われていたならば，

あなたはその惡事をおこなった男子または女子を町の門にひき出し，その男子または女子を石で擊ち殺さなければならない．

At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose;

And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment:

And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee:

ふたりの證人または三人の證人の證言によって殺すべき者を殺さなければならない．ただひとりの證人の證言によって殺してはならない．

そのような者を殺すには，證人がまず手を下し，それから民が皆，手を下さなければならない．こうしてあなたのうちから惡を除き去らなければならない．

町の內に訴え事が起り，その事件がもし血を流す事，または權利を爭う事，または人を擊った事などであって，あなたが，さばきかねるものである時は，立ってあなたの神，主が選ばれる場所にのぼり，

レビびとである祭司と，その時の裁判人とに行って尋ねなければならない．彼らはあなたに判決の言葉を告げるであろう．

あなたは，主が選ばれるその場所で，彼らが告げる言葉に從っておこない，すべて彼らが敎えるように守り行わなければならない．

According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.

And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.

When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;

Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.

すなわち彼らが敎える律法と，彼らが告げる判決とに從って行わなければならない．彼らが告げる言葉にそむいて，右にも左にもかたよってはならない．

もし人がほしいままにふるまい，あなたの神，主の前に立って仕える祭司または裁判人に聞き從わないならば，その人を殺して，イスラエルのうちから惡を除かなければならない．

そうすれば民は皆，聞いて恐れ，重ねてほしいままにふるまうことをしないであろう．

あなたの神，主が賜わる地に行き，それを獲てそこに住むようになる時，もしあなたが『わたしも周圍のすべての國びとのように，わたしの上に王を立てよう』と言うならば，

必ずあなたの神，主が選ばれる者を，あなたの上に立てて王としなければならない．同胞のひとりを，あなたの上に立てて王としなければならない．同胞でない外國人をあなたの上に立ててはならない．

But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:

That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

王となる人は自分のために馬を多く獲ようとしてはならない．また馬を多く獲るために民をエジプトに歸らせてはならない．主はあなたがたにむかって，『この後かさねてこの道に歸ってはならない』と仰せられたからである．

また妻を多く持って心を，迷わしてはならない．また自分のために金銀を多くたくわえてはならない．

彼が國の王位につくようになったら，レビびとである祭司の保管する書物から，この律法の寫しを一つの書物に書きしるさせ，

世に生きながらえる日の間，常にそれを自分のもとに置いて讀み，こうしてその神，主を恐れることを學び，この律法のすべての言葉と，これらの定めとを守って行わなければならない．

そうすれば彼の心が同胞を見くだして，高ぶることなく，また戒めを離れて，右にも左にも曲ることなく，その子孫と共にイスラエルにおいて，長くその位にとどまることができるであろう．

	레위인과 선지자(18:1-18:22)

The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.

Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: the LORD is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.

And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.

レビびとである祭司すなわちレビの全部族はイスラエルのうちに，分も嗣業も持たない．彼らは主にささげられる火祭の物と，その他のささげ物とを食べなければならない．

彼らはその兄弟のうちに嗣業を持たない．かつて彼らに約束されたとおり主が彼らの嗣業である．

祭司が民から受ける分は次のとおりである．すなわち ¿牲をささげる者は，牛でも，羊でも，その肩と，兩方のほおと，胃とを祭司に與えなければならない．

また穀物と，ぶどう酒と，油の初物および羊の毛の初物をも彼に與えなければならない．

あなたの神，主がすべての部族のうちから彼を選び出して，彼とその子孫を長く主の名によって立って仕えさせられるからである．

And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose;

Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the LORD.

They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

レビびとはイスラエルの全地のうち，どこにいる者でも，彼が宿っている町を出て，主が選ばれる場所に行くならば，

彼は主の前に立っているすべての兄弟レビびとと同じように，その神，主の名によって仕えることができる．

彼が食べる分は彼らと同じである．ただし彼はこのほかに父の遺産を賣って獲た物を持つことができる．

あなたの神，主が賜わる地にはいったならば，その國¿の民の憎むべき事を習いおこなってはならない．

Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

呪文を唱える者，口寄せ，かんなぎ，死人に問うことをする者があってはならない．

主はすべてこれらの事をする者を憎まれるからである．そしてこれらの憎むべき事のゆえにあなたの神，主は彼らをあなたの前から追い拂われるのである．

あなたの神，主の前にあなたは全き者でなければならない．

あなたが追い拂うかの國¿の民は卜者，占いをする者に聞き從うからである．しかし，あなたには，あなたの神，主はそうする事を許されない．

あなたの神，主はあなたのうちから，あなたの同胞のうちから，わたしのようなひとりの預言者をあなたのために起されるであろう．あなたがたは彼に聞き從わなければならない．

According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

これはあなたが集會の日にホレブであなたの神，主に求めたことである．すなわちあなたは『わたしが死ぬことのないようにわたしの神，主の聲を二度とわたしに聞かせないでください．またこの大いなる火を二度と見させないでください』と言った．

主はわたしに言われた，『彼らが言ったことは正しい．

わたしは彼らの同胞のうちから，おまえのようなひとりの預言者を彼らのために起して，わたしの言葉をその口に授けよう．彼はわたしが命じることを，ことごとく彼らに告げるであろう．

彼がわたしの名によって，わたしの言葉を語るのに，もしこれに聞き從わない者があるならば，わたしはそれを罰するであろう．

And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

あなたは心のうちに『われわれは，その言葉が主の言われたものでないと，どうして知り得ようか』と言うであろう．

もし預言者があって，主の名によって語っても，その言葉が成就せず，またその事が起らない時は，それは主が語られた言葉ではなく，その預言者がほしいままに語ったのである．その預言者を恐れるに及ばない．

	도피성(19:1-19:14)

When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.

And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;

As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:

あなたの神，主が國¿の民を滅ぼしつくして，あなたの神，主がその地を賜わり，あなたがそれを獲て，その町¿と，その家¿に住むようになる時は，

あなたの神，主が與えて獲させられる地のうちに，三つの町をあなたのために指定しなければならない．

そしてそこに行く道を備え，またあなたの神，主があなたに繼がせられる地の領域を三區に分け，すべて人を殺した者をそこにのがれさせなければならない．

人を殺した者がそこにのがれて，命を全うすべき場合は次のとおりである．すなわち以前から憎むこともないのに，知らないでその隣人を殺した場合，

たとえば人が木を切ろうとして，隣人と一緖に林に入り，手におのを取って，木を切り倒そうと擊ちおろすとき，その頭が柄から拔け，隣人にあたって，死なせたような場合がそれである．そういう人はこれらの町の一つにのがれて，命を全うすることができる．

Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.

And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:

That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

そうしなければ，復讐する者が怒って，その殺した者を追いかけ，道が長いために，ついに追いついて殺すであろう．しかし，その人は以前から彼を憎んでいた者でないから，殺される理由はない．

それでわたしはあなたに命じて『三つの町をあなたのために指定しなければならない』と言ったのである．

これはあなたの神，主が與えて嗣業とされる地のうちで，罪のない者の血が流されないようにするためである．そうしなければ，その血を流したとがは，あなたに歸するであろう．

But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

しかし，もし人が隣人を憎んでそれをつけねらい，立ちかかってその人を擊ち殺し，そしてこれらの町の一つにのがれるならば，

その町の長老たちは人をつかわして彼をそこから引いてこさせ，復讐する者にわたして殺させなければならない．

彼をあわれんではならない．罪のない者の血を流したとがを，イスラエルから除かなければならない．そうすればあなたにさいわいがあるであろう．

あなたの神，主が與えて獲させられる地で，あなたが繼ぐ嗣業において，先祖の定めたあなたの隣人の土地の境を移してはならない．
