- Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
- I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
- Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
- We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
- For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

- わが 民よ， わが 敎を 聞き， わが 口の 言葉に 耳を 傾けよ．
- わたしは 口を 開いて， たとえを 語り， いにしえからの， なぞを 語ろう．
- これはわれらがさきに 聞いて 知ったこと， またわれらの 先祖たちが ／われらに 語り 傳えたことである．
- われらはこれを 子孫に 隱さず， 主の 光榮あるみわざと， その 力と， 主のなされたくすしきみわざとを ／きたるべき 代に 告げるであろう．
- 主はあかしを ヤコブ のうちにたて， おきてを イスラエル のうちに 定めて， その 子孫に 敎うべきことを ／われらの 先祖たちに 命じられた．

- That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
- That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
- And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

- これは 次の 代に 生れる 子孫がこれを 知り， みずから 起って， そのまた 子孫にこれを 傳え，
- 彼らをして 神に 望みをおき， 神のみわざを 忘れず， その 戒めを 守らせるためである．
- またその 先祖たちのようにかたくなで， そむく 者のやからとなり， その 心が 定まりなく， その 魂が 神に 忠實でないやからと ／ならないためである．
