- And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
- And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
- And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
- And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.
- Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?

- さて ナオミ には， 夫 エリメレク の 一族で， 非常に 裕福なひとりの 親戚があって， その 名を ボアズ といった．
- モアブ の 女 ルツ は ナオミ に 言った， 「どうぞ， わたしを 畑に 行かせてください． だれか 親切な 人が 見當るならば， わたしはその 方のあとについて 落ち 穗を 拾います 」． ナオミ が 彼女に「娘よ， 行きなさい 」と 言ったので，
- ルツ は 行って， 刈る 人たちのあとに 從い， 畑で 落ち 穗を 拾ったが， 彼女ははからずも エリメレク の 一族である ボアズ の 畑の 部分にきた．
- その 時 ボアズ は， ベツレヘム からきて， 刈る 者どもに 言った， 「主があなたがたと 共におられますように 」． 彼らは 答えた， 「主があなたを 祝福されますように 」．
- ボアズ は 刈る 人たちを 監督しているしもべに 言った， 「これはだれの 娘ですか 」．

- And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
- And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
- Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
- Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
- Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

- 刈る 人たちを 監督しているしもべは 答えた， 「あれは モアブ の 女で， モアブ の 地から ナオミ と 一緖に 歸ってきたのですが，
- 彼女は『どうぞ， わたしに， 刈る 人たちのあとについて， 束のあいだで， 落ち 穗を 拾い 集めさせてください 』と 言いました． そして 彼女は 朝早くきて， 今まで ¿いて， 少しのあいだも 休みませんでした 」．
- ボアズ は ルツ に 言った， 「娘よ， お 聞きなさい． ほかの 畑に 穗を 拾いに 行ってはいけません． またここを 去ってはなりません． わたしのところで ¿く 女たちを 離れないで， ここにいなさい．
- 人¿が 刈りとっている 畑に 目をとめて， そのあとについて 行きなさい． わたしは 若者たちに 命じて， あなたのじゃまをしないようにと， 言っておいたではありませんか． あなたがかわく 時には 水がめのところへ 行って， 若者たちのくんだのを 飮みなさい 」．
- 彼女は 地に 伏して 拜し， 彼に 言った， 「どうしてあなたは， わたしのような 外國人を 顧みて， 親切にしてくださるのですか 」．

- And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
- The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
- Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
- And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
- And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

- ボアズ は 答えて 彼女に 言った， 「あなたの 夫が 死んでこのかた， あなたがしゅうとめにつくしたこと， また 自分の 父母と 生れた 國を 離れて， かつて 知らなかった 民のところにきたことは 皆わたしに 聞えました．
- どうぞ， 主があなたのしたことに 報いられるように． どうぞ， イスラエル の 神， 主， すなわちあなたがその 翼の 下に 身を 寄せようとしてきた 主からじゅうぶんの 報いを 得られるように 」．
- 彼女は 言った， 「わが 主よ， まことにありがとうございます． わたしはあなたのはしためのひとりにも 及ばないのに， あなたはこんなにわたしを 慰め， はしためにねんごろに 語られました 」．
- 食事の 時， ボアズ は 彼女に 言った， 「ここへきて， パン を 食べ， あなたの 食べる 物を 酢に 浸しなさい 」． 彼女が 刈る 人¿のかたわらにすわったので， ボアズ は 燒麥を 彼女に 與えた． 彼女は 飽きるほど 食べて 殘した．
- そして 彼女がまた 穗を 拾おうと 立ちあがったとき， ボアズ は 若者たちに 命じて 言った， 「彼女には 束の 間でも 穗を 拾わせなさい． とがめてはならない．

- And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
- So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
- And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
- And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
- And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

- また 彼女のために 束からわざと 拔き 落しておいて 拾わせなさい． しかってはならない 」．
- こうして 彼女は 夕暮まで 畑で 落ち 穗を 拾った． そして 拾った 穗を 打つと， 大麥は 一 エパ ほどあった．
- 彼女はそれを 携えて 町にはいり， しゅうとめにその 拾ったものを 見せ， かつ 食べ 飽きて， 殘して 持ちかえったものを 取り 出して 與えた．
- しゅうとめは 彼女に 言った， 「あなたは， きょう， どこで 穗を 拾いましたか． どこで ¿きましたか． あなたをそのように 顧みてくださったかたに， どうか 祝福があるように 」． そこで 彼女は 自分がだれの 所で ¿いたかを， しゅうとめに 告げて， 「わたしが， きょう ¿いたのは ボアズ という 名の 人の 所です 」と 言った．
- ナオミ は 嫁に 言った， 「生きている 者をも， 死んだ 者をも， 顧みて， いつくしみを 賜わる 主が， どうぞその 人を 祝福されますように 」． ナオミ はまた 彼女に 言った， 「その 人はわたしたちの 緣者で， 最も 近い 親戚のひとりです 」．

- And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
- And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
- So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.

- モアブ の 女 ルツ は 言った， 「その 人はまたわたしに『あなたはわたしのところの 刈入れが 全部終るまで， わたしのしもべたちのそばについていなさい 』と 言いました 」．
- ナオミ は 嫁 ルツ に 言った， 「娘よ， その 人のところで ¿く 女たちと 一緖に 出かけるのはけっこうです． そうすればほかの 畑で 人にいじめられるのを 免れるでしょう 」．
- それで 彼女は ボアズ のところで ¿く 女たちのそばについていて 穗を 拾い， 大麥刈と 小麥刈の 終るまでそうした． こうして 彼女はしゅうとめと 一緖に 暮した．
