- Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
- But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
- Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
- Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
- But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

- さて， エルサレム のある 人たちが 言った， 「この 人は 人¿が 殺そうと 思っている 者ではないか．
- 見よ， 彼は 公然と 語っているのに， 人¿はこれに 對して 何も 言わない． 役人たちは， この 人が キリスト であることを， ほんとうに 知っているのではなかろうか．
- わたしたちはこの 人がどこからきたのか 知っている． しかし， キリスト が 現れる 時には， どこから 來るのか 知っている 者は， ひとりもいない 」．
- イエス は 宮の 內で 敎えながら， 叫んで 言われた， 「あなたがたは， わたしを 知っており， また， わたしがどこからきたかも 知っている． しかし， わたしは 自分からきたのではない． わたしをつかわされたかたは 眞實であるが， あなたがたは， そのかたを 知らない．
- わたしは， そのかたを 知っている． わたしはそのかたのもとからきた 者で， そのかたがわたしをつかわされたのである 」．

- Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
- And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
- The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
- Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
- Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.

- そこで 人¿は イエス を 捕えようと 計ったが， だれひとり 手をかける 者はなかった． イエス の 時が， まだきていなかったからである．
- しかし， 群衆の 中の 多くの 者が， イエス を 信じて 言った， 「キリスト がきても， この 人が 行ったよりも 多くのしるしを 行うだろうか 」．
- 群衆が イエス についてこのようなうわさをしているのを， パリサイ 人たちは 耳にした． そこで， 祭司長たちや パリサイ 人たちは， イエス を 捕えようとして， 下役どもをつかわした．
- イエス は 言われた， 「今しばらくの 間， わたしはあなたがたと 一緖にいて， それから， わたしをおつかわしになったかたのみもとに 行く．
- あなたがたはわたしを 搜すであろうが， 見つけることはできない． そしてわたしのいる 所に， あなたがたは 來ることができない 」．

- Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
- What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
- In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
- He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
- (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

- そこで ユダヤ 人たちは 互に 言った， 「わたしたちが 見つけることができないというのは， どこへ 行こうとしているのだろう． ギリシヤ 人の 中に 離散している 人たちのところにでも 行って， ギリシヤ 人を 敎えようというのだろうか．
- また， 『わたしを 搜すが， 見つけることはできない． そしてわたしのいる 所には 來ることができないだろう 』と 言ったその 言葉は， どういう 意味だろう 」．
- 祭の 終りの 大事な 日に， イエス は 立って， 叫んで 言われた， 「だれでもかわく 者は， わたしのところにきて 飮むがよい．
- わたしを 信じる 者は， 聖書に 書いてあるとおり， その 腹から 生ける 水が 川となって 流れ 出るであろう 」．
- これは， イエス を 信じる 人¿が 受けようとしている 御靈をさして 言われたのである． すなわち， イエス はまだ 榮光を 受けておられなかったので， 御靈がまだ 下っていなかったのである．

- Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
- Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
- Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
- So there was a division among the people because of him.
- And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

- 群衆のある 者がこれらの 言葉を 聞いて， 「このかたは， ほんとうに， あの 預言者である 」と 言い，
- ほかの 人たちは「このかたは キリスト である 」と 言い， また， ある 人¿は， 「キリスト はまさか， ガリラヤ からは 出てこないだろう．
- キリスト は， ダビデ の 子孫から， また ダビデ のいた ベツレヘム の 村から 出ると， 聖書に 書いてあるではないか 」と 言った．
- こうして， 群衆の 間に イエス のことで 分爭が 生じた．
- 彼らのうちのある 人¿は， イエス を 捕えようと 思ったが， だれひとり 手をかける 者はなかった．

- Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
- The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
- Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
- Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
- But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

- さて， 下役どもが 祭司長たちや パリサイ 人たちのところに 歸ってきたので， 彼らはその 下役どもに 言った， 「なぜ， あの 人を 連れてこなかったのか 」．
- 下役どもは 答えた， 「この 人の 語るように 語った 者は， これまでにありませんでした 」．
- パリサイ 人たちが 彼らに 答えた， 「あなたがたまでが， だまされているのではないか．
- 役人たちや パリサイ 人たちの 中で， ひとりでも 彼を 信じた 者があっただろうか．
- 律法をわきまえないこの 群衆は， のろわれている 」．

- Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
- Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
- They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
- And every man went unto his own house.

- 彼らの 中のひとりで， 以前に イエス に 會いにきたことのある ニコデモ が， 彼らに 言った，
- 「わたしたちの 律法によれば， まずその 人の 言い 分を 聞き， その 人のしたことを 知った 上でなければ， さばくことをしないのではないか 」．
- 彼らは 答えて 言った， 「あなたも ガリラヤ 出なのか． よく 調べてみなさい， ガリラヤ からは 預言者が 出るものではないことが， わかるだろう 」．
- 〔そして， 人¿はおのおの 家に 歸って 行った．
