- And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
- Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
- Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
- But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
- And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

- そのころ， 弟子の 數がふえてくるにつれて， ギリシヤ 語を 使う ユダヤ 人たちから， ヘブル 語を 使う ユダヤ 人たちに 對して， 自分たちのやもめらが， 日¿の 配給で， おろそかにされがちだと， 苦情を 申し 立てた．
- そこで， 十二使徒は 弟子全體を 呼び 集めて 言った， 「わたしたちが 神の 言をさしおいて， 食卓のことに 携わるのはおもしろくない．
- そこで， 兄弟たちよ， あなたがたの 中から， 御靈と 知惠とに 滿ちた， 評判のよい 人たち 七人を 搜し 出してほしい． その 人たちにこの 仕事をまかせ，
- わたしたちは， もっぱら 祈と 御言のご 用に 當ることにしよう 」．
- この 提案は 會衆一同の 贊成するところとなった． そして 信仰と 聖靈とに 滿ちた 人 ステパノ ， それから ピリポ ， プロコロ ， ニカノル ， テモン ， パルメナ ， および アンテオケ の 改宗者 ニコラオ を 選び 出して，

- Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
- And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
- And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
- Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
- And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

- 使徒たちの 前に 立たせた． すると， 使徒たちは 祈って 手を 彼らの 上においた．
- こうして 神の 言は， ますますひろまり， エルサレム における 弟子の 數が， 非常にふえていき， 祭司たちも 多數， 信仰を 受けいれるようになった．
- さて， ステパノ は 惠みと 力とに 滿ちて， 民衆の 中で， めざましい 奇跡としるしとを 行っていた．
- すると， いわゆる「リベルテン 」の 會堂に 屬する 人¿， クレネ 人， アレキサンドリヤ 人， キリキヤ や アジヤ からきた 人¿などが 立って， ステパノ と 議論したが，
- 彼は 知惠と 御靈とで 語っていたので， それに 對抗できなかった．

- Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
- And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
- And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
- For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
- And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

- そこで， 彼らは 人¿をそそのかして， 「わたしたちは， 彼が モ ― セ と 神とを 汚す 言葉を 吐くのを 聞いた 」と 言わせた．
- その 上， 民衆や 長老たちや 律法學者たちを �촬沂랜� 彼を 襲って 捕えさせ， 議會にひっぱってこさせた．
- それから， 僞りの 證人たちを 立てて 言わせた， 「この 人は， この 聖所と 律法とに 逆らう 言葉を 吐いて， どうしても， やめようとはしません．
- 『あの ナザレ 人 イエス は， この 聖所を 打ちこわし， モ ― セ がわたしたちに 傳えた 慣例を 變えてしまうだろう 』などと， 彼が 言うのを， わたしたちは 聞きました 」．
- 議會で 席についていた 人たちは 皆， ステパノ に 目を 注いだが， 彼の 顔は， ちょうど 天使の 顔のように 見えた．
