- Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
- (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)
- I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
- And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
- As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

- 「兄弟たち， 父たちよ， いま 申し 上げるわたしの 弁明を 聞いていただきたい 」．
- パウロ が， ヘブル 語でこう 語りかけるのを 聞いて， 人¿はますます 靜¿になった．
- そこで 彼は 言葉をついで 言った， 「わたしは キリキヤ の タルソ で 生れた ユダヤ 人であるが， この 都で 育てられ， ガマリエル のひざもとで 先祖傳來の 律法について， きびしい 薰陶を 受け， 今日の 皆さんと 同じく 神に 對して 熱心な 者であった．
- そして， この 道を 迫害し， 男であれ 女であれ， 縛りあげて 獄に 投じ， 彼らを 死に 至らせた．
- このことは， 大祭司も 長老たち 一同も， 證明するところである． さらにわたしは， この 人たちから ダマスコ の 同志たちへあてた 手紙をもらって， その 地にいる 者たちを 縛りあげ， エルサレム にひっぱってきて， 處罰するため， 出かけて 行った．

- And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
- And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
- And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
- And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
- And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

- 旅をつづけて ダマスコ の 近くにきた 時に， 眞¿ごろ， 突然， つよい 光が 天からわたしをめぐり 照した．
- わたしは 地に 倒れた． そして， 『サウロ ， サウロ ， なぜわたしを 迫害するのか 』と， 呼びかける 聲を 聞いた．
- これに 對してわたしは， 『主よ， あなたはどなたですか 』と 言った． すると， その 聲が， 『わたしは， あなたが 迫害している ナザレ 人 イエス である 』と 答えた．
- わたしと 一緖にいた 者たちは， その 光は 見たが， わたしに 語りかけたかたの 聲は 聞かなかった．
- わたしが『主よ， わたしは 何をしたらよいでしょうか 』と 尋ねたところ， 主は 言われた， 『起きあがって ダマスコ に 行きなさい． そうすれば， あなたがするように 決めてある 事が， すべてそこで 告げられるであろう 』．

- And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
- And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
- Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
- And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
- For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

- わたしは， 光の 輝きで 目がくらみ， 何も 見えなくなっていたので， 連れの 者たちに 手を 引かれながら， ダマスコ に 行った．
- すると， 律法に 忠實で， ダマスコ 在住の ユダヤ 人全體に 評判のよい アナニヤ という 人が，
- わたしのところにきて， そばに 立ち， 『兄弟 サウロ よ， 見えるようになりなさい 』と 言った． するとその 瞬間に， わたしの 目が 開いて， 彼の 姿が 見えた．
- 彼は 言った， 『わたしたちの 先祖の 神が， あなたを 選んでみ 旨を 知らせ， かの 義人を 見させ， その 口から 聲をお 聞かせになった．
- それはあなたが， その 見聞きした 事につき， すべての 人に 對して， 彼の 證人になるためである．

- And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
- And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;
- And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
- And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
- And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

- そこで 今， なんのためらうことがあろうか． すぐ 立って， み 名をとなえて バプテスマ を 受け， あなたの 罪を 洗い 落しなさい 』．
- それからわたしは， エルサレム に 歸って 宮で 祈っているうちに， 夢うつつになり，
- 主にまみえたが， 主は 言われた， 『急いで， すぐに エルサレム を 出て 行きなさい． わたしについてのあなたのあかしを， 人¿が 受けいれないから 』．
- そこで， わたしが 言った， 『主よ， 彼らは， わたしがいたるところの 會堂で， あなたを 信じる 人¿を 獄に 投じたり， むち 打ったりしていたことを， 知っています．
- また， あなたの 證人 ステパノ の 血が 流された 時も， わたしは 立ち 合っていてそれに 贊成し， また 彼を 殺した 人たちの 上着の 番をしていたのです 』．

- And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

- すると， 主がわたしに 言われた， 『行きなさい． わたしが， あなたを 遠く 異邦の 民へつかわすのだ 』」．
