- Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
- For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
- So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
- Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
- For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

- それとも， 兄弟たちよ． あなたがたは 知らないのか． わたしは 律法を 知っている 人¿に 語るのであるが， 律法は 人をその 生きている 期間だけ 支配するものである．
- すなわち， 夫のある 女は， 夫が 生きている 間は， 律法によって 彼につながれている． しかし， 夫が 死ねば， 夫の 律法から 解放される．
- であるから， 夫の 生存中に 他の 男に 行けば， その 女は 淫婦と 呼ばれるが， もし 夫が 死ねば， その 律法から 解かれるので， 他の 男に 行っても， 淫婦とはならない．
- わたしの 兄弟たちよ． このように， あなたがたも， キリスト のからだをとおして， 律法に 對して 死んだのである． それは， あなたがたが 他の 人， すなわち， 死人の 中からよみがえられたかたのものとなり， こうして， わたしたちが 神のために 實を 結ぶに 至るためなのである．
- というのは， わたしたちが 肉にあった 時には， 律法による 罪の 欲情が， 死のために 實を 結ばせようとして， わたしたちの 肢體のうちに ¿いていた．

- But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
- What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
- But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
- For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
- And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

- しかし 今は， わたしたちをつないでいたものに 對して 死んだので， わたしたちは 律法から 解放され， その 結果， 古い 文字によってではなく， 新しい 靈によって 仕えているのである．
- それでは， わたしたちは， なんと 言おうか． 律法は 罪なのか． 斷じてそうではない． しかし， 律法によらなければ， わたしは 罪を 知らなかったであろう． すなわち， もし 律法が「むさぼるな 」と 言わなかったら， わたしはむさぼりなるものを 知らなかったであろう．
- しかるに， 罪は 戒めによって 機會を 捕え， わたしの 內に ¿いて， あらゆるむさぼりを 起させた． すなわち， 律法がなかったら， 罪は 死んでいるのである．
- わたしはかつては， 律法なしに 生きていたが， 戒めが 來るに 及んで， 罪は 生き 返り，
- わたしは 死んだ． そして， いのちに 導くべき 戒めそのものが， かえってわたしを 死に 導いて 行くことがわかった．

- For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
- Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
- Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
- For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
- For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

- なぜなら， 罪は 戒めによって 機會を 捕え， わたしを 欺き， 戒めによってわたしを 殺したからである．
- このようなわけで， 律法そのものは 聖なるものであり， 戒めも 聖であって， 正しく， かつ 善なるものである．
- では， 善なるものが， わたしにとって 死となったのか． 斷じてそうではない． それはむしろ， 罪の 罪たることが 現れるための， 罪のしわざである． すなわち， 罪は， 戒めによって， はなはだしく 惡性なものとなるために， 善なるものによってわたしを 死に 至らせたのである．
- わたしたちは， 律法は 靈的なものであると 知っている． しかし， わたしは 肉につける 者であって， 罪の 下に 賣られているのである．
- わたしは 自分のしていることが， わからない． なぜなら， わたしは 自分の 欲する 事は 行わず， かえって 自分の 憎む 事をしているからである．

- If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
- Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
- For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
- For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
- Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

- もし， 自分の 欲しない 事をしているとすれば， わたしは 律法が 良いものであることを 承認していることになる．
- そこで， この 事をしているのは， もはやわたしではなく， わたしの 內に 宿っている 罪である．
- わたしの 內に， すなわち， わたしの 肉の 內には， 善なるものが 宿っていないことを， わたしは 知っている． なぜなら， 善をしようとする 意志は， 自分にあるが， それをする 力がないからである．
- すなわち， わたしの 欲している 善はしないで， 欲していない 惡は， これを 行っている．
- もし， 欲しないことをしているとすれば， それをしているのは， もはやわたしではなく， わたしの 內に 宿っている 罪である．
