- What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
- For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
- So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
- For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
- Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

- では， わたしたちはなんと 言おうか． 神の 側に 不正があるのか． 斷じてそうではない．
- 神は モ ― セ に 言われた， 「わたしは 自分のあわれもうとする 者をあわれみ， いつくしもうとする 者を， いつくしむ 」．
- ゆえに， それは 人間の 意志や 努力によるのではなく， ただ 神のあわれみによるのである．
- 聖書は パロ にこう 言っている， 「わたしがあなたを 立てたのは， この 事のためである． すなわち， あなたによってわたしの 力をあらわし， また， わたしの 名が 全世界に 言いひろめられるためである 」．
- だから， 神はそのあわれもうと 思う 者をあわれみ， かたくなにしようと 思う 者を， かたくなになさるのである．

- Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
- Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
- Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
- What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
- And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

- そこで， あなたは 言うであろう， 「なぜ 神は， なおも 人を 責められるのか． だれが， 神の 意圖に 逆らい 得ようか 」．
- ああ 人よ． あなたは， 神に 言い 逆らうとは， いったい， 何者なのか． 造られたものが 造った 者に 向かって， 「なぜ， わたしをこのように 造ったのか 」と 言うことがあろうか．
- 陶器を 造る 者は， 同じ 土くれから， 一つを 尊い 器に， 他を 卑しい 器に 造りあげる 權能がないのであろうか．
- もし， 神が 怒りをあらわし， かつ， ご 自身の 力を 知らせようと 思われつつも， 滅びることになっている 怒りの 器を， 大いなる 寬容をもって 忍ばれたとすれば，
- かつ， 榮光にあずからせるために， あらかじめ 用意されたあわれみの 器にご 自身の 榮光の 富を 知らせようとされたとすれば， どうであろうか．

- Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
- As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
- And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
- Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
- For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

- 神は， このあわれみの 器として， またわたしたちをも， ユダヤ 人の 中からだけではなく， 異邦人の 中からも 召されたのである．
- それは， ホセア の 書でも 言われているとおりである， ／「わたしは， わたしの 民でない 者を， ／わたしの 民と 呼び， ／愛されなかった 者を， 愛される 者と 呼ぶであろう．
- あなたがたはわたしの 民ではないと， ／彼らに 言ったその 場所で， ／彼らは 生ける 神の 子らであると， ／呼ばれるであろう 」．
- また， イザヤ は イスラエル について 叫んでいる， ／「たとい， イスラエル の 子らの 數は， ／浜の 砂のようであっても， ／救われるのは， 殘された 者だけであろう．
- 主は， 御言をきびしくまたすみやかに， ／地上になしとげられるであろう 」．

- And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

- さらに， イザヤ は 預言した， ／「もし， 万軍の 主がわたしたちに ／子孫を 殘されなかったなら， ／わたしたちは ソドム のようになり， ／ ゴモラ と 同じようになったであろう 」．
