- Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
- If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
- Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
- Have we not power to eat and to drink?
- Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

- わたしは 自由な 者ではないか． 使徒ではないか． わたしたちの 主 イエス を 見たではないか． あなたがたは， 主にあるわたしの ¿きの 實ではないか．
- わたしは， ほかの 人に 對しては 使徒でないとしても， あなたがたには 使徒である． あなたがたが 主にあることは， わたしの 使徒職の 印なのである．
- わたしの 批判者たちに 對する 弁明は， これである．
- わたしたちには， 飮み 食いをする 權利がないのか．
- わたしたちには， ほかの 使徒たちや 主の 兄弟たちや ケパ のように， 信者である 妻を 連れて 步く 權利がないのか．

- Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
- Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
- Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
- For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
- Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

- それとも， わたしと バルナバ とだけには， 勞¿をせずにいる 權利がないのか．
- いったい， 自分で 費用を 出して 軍隊に 加わる 者があろうか． ぶどう 畑を 作っていて， その 實を 食べない 者があろうか． また， 羊を 飼っていて， その 乳を 飮まない 者があろうか．
- わたしは， 人間の 考えでこう 言うのではない． 律法もまた， そのように 言っているではないか．
- すなわち， モ ― セ の 律法に， 「穀物をこなしている 牛に， くつこをかけてはならない 」と 書いてある． 神は， 牛のことを 心にかけておられるのだろうか．
- それとも， もっぱら， わたしたちのために 言っておられるのか． もちろん， それはわたしたちのためにしるされたのである． すなわち， 耕す 者は 望みをもって 耕し， 穀物をこなす 者は， その 分け 前をもらう 望みをもってこなすのである．

- If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
- If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
- Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
- Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
- But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

- もしわたしたちが， あなたがたのために 靈のものをまいたのなら， 肉のものをあなたがたから 刈りとるのは， 行き 過ぎだろうか．
- もしほかの 人¿が， あなたがたに 對するこの 權利にあずかっているとすれば， わたしたちはなおさらのことではないか． しかしわたしたちは， この 權利を 利用せず， かえって キリスト の 福音の 妨げにならないようにと， すべてのことを 忍んでいる．
- あなたがたは， 宮仕えをしている 人たちは 宮から 下がる 物を 食べ， 祭壇に 奉仕している 人たちは 祭壇の 供え 物の 分け 前にあずかることを， 知らないのか．
- それと 同樣に， 主は， 福音を 宣べ 傳えている 者たちが 福音によって 生活すべきことを， 定められたのである．
- しかしわたしは， これらの 權利を 一つも 利用しなかった． また， 自分がそうしてもらいたいから， このように 書くのではない． そうされるよりは， 死ぬ 方がましである． わたしのこの 誇は， 何者にも 奪い 去られてはならないのだ．

- For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
- For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
- What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

- わたしが 福音を 宣べ 傳えても， それは 誇にはならない． なぜなら， わたしは， そうせずにはおれないからである． もし 福音を 宣べ 傳えないなら， わたしはわざわいである．
- 進んでそれをすれば， 報酬を 受けるであろう． しかし， 進んでしないとしても， それは， わたしにゆだねられた 務なのである．
- それでは， その 報酬はなんであるか． 福音を 宣べ 傳えるのにそれを 無代價で 提供し， わたしが 宣敎者として 持つ 權利を 利用しないことである．
