- For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
- And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
- To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
- To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
- And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

- わたしは， すべての 人に 對して 自由であるが， できるだけ 多くの 人を 得るために， 自ら 進んですべての 人の 奴隷になった．
- ユダヤ 人には， ユダヤ 人のようになった． ユダヤ 人を 得るためである． 律法の 下にある 人には， わたし 自身は 律法の 下にはないが， 律法の 下にある 者のようになった． 律法の 下にある 人を 得るためである．
- 律法のない 人には ――わたしは 神の 律法の 外にあるのではなく， キリスト の 律法の 中にあるのだが ――律法のない 人のようになった． 律法のない 人を 得るためである．
- 弱い 人には 弱い 者になった． 弱い 人を 得るためである． すべての 人に 對しては， すべての 人のようになった． なんとかして 幾人かを 救うためである．
- 福音のために， わたしはどんな 事でもする． わたしも 共に 福音にあずかるためである．

- Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
- And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
- I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
- But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

- あなたがたは 知らないのか． 競技場で 走る 者は， みな 走りはするが， 賞を 得る 者はひとりだけである． あなたがたも， 賞を 得るように 走りなさい．
- しかし， すべて 競技をする 者は， 何ごとにも 節制をする． 彼らは 朽ちる 冠を 得るためにそうするが， わたしたちは 朽ちない 冠を 得るためにそうするのである．
- そこで， わたしは 目標のはっきりしないような 走り 方をせず， 空を 打つような 拳鬪はしない．
- すなわち， 自分のからだを 打ちたたいて 服從させるのである． そうしないと， ほかの 人に 宣べ 傳えておきながら， 自分は 失格者になるかも 知れない．
