- For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

- For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
- Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

- さて， マケドニヤ に 着いたとき， わたしたちの 身に 少しの 休みもなく， さまざまの 患難に 會い， 外には 戰い， 內には 恐れがあった．
- しかるに， うちしおれている 者を 慰める 神は， テトス の 到來によって， わたしたちを 慰めて 下さった．
- ただ 彼の 到來によるばかりではなく， 彼があなたがたから 受けたその 慰めをもって， 慰めて 下さった． すなわち， あなたがたがわたしを 慕っていること， 嘆いていること， またわたしに 對して 熱心であることを 知らせてくれたので， わたしの 喜びはいよいよ 增し 加わったのである．
- そこで， たとい， あの 手紙であなたがたを 悲しませたとしても， わたしはそれを 悔いていない． あの 手紙がしばらくの 間ではあるが， あなたがたを 悲しませたのを 見て 悔いたとしても，
- 今は 喜んでいる． それは， あなたがたが 悲しんだからではなく， 悲しんで 悔い 改めるに 至ったからである． あなたがたがそのように 悲しんだのは， 神のみこころに 添うたことであって， わたしたちからはなんの 損害も 受けなかったのである．

- For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
- For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
- Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
- Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
- For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

- 神のみこころに 添うた 悲しみは， 悔いのない 救を 得させる 悔改めに 導き， この 世の 悲しみは 死をきたらせる．
- 見よ， 神のみこころに 添うたその 悲しみが， どんなにか 熱情をあなたがたに 起させたことか． また， 弁明， 義憤， 恐れ， 愛慕， 熱意， それから 處罰に 至らせたことか． あなたがたはあの 問題については， すべての 点において 潔白であることを 證明したのである．
- だから， わたしがあなたがたに 書きおくったのは， 不義をした 人のためでも， 不義を 受けた 人のためでもなく， わたしたちに 對するあなたがたの 熱情が， 神の 前にあなたがたの 間で 明らかになるためである．
- こういうわけで， わたしたちは 慰められたのである． これらの 慰めの 上に テトス の 喜びが 加わって， わたしたちはなおいっそう 喜んだ． 彼があなたがた 一同によって 安心させられたからである．
- そして， わたしは 彼に 對してあなたがたのことを 少しく 誇ったが， それはわたしの 恥にならないですんだ． あなたがたにいっさいのことを 眞實に 語ったように， テトス に 對して 誇ったことも 眞實となってきたのである．

- And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.
- I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

- また 彼は， あなたがた 一同が 從順であって， おそれおののきつつ 自分を 迎えてくれたことを 思い 出して， ますます 心をあなたがたの 方に 寄せている．
- わたしは， あなたがたに 全く 信賴することができて， 喜んでいる．
