- Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
- But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
- For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
- (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
- Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

- さて， 「あなたがたの 間にいて 面と 向かってはおとなしいが， 離れていると， 氣が 强くなる 」この パウロ が， キリスト の 優しさ， 寬大さをもって， あなたがたに 勸める．
- わたしたちを 肉に 從って 步いているかのように 思っている 人¿に 對しては， わたしは 勇敢に 行動するつもりであるが， あなたがたの 所では， どうか， そのような 思いきったことをしないですむようでありたい．
- わたしたちは， 肉にあって 步いてはいるが， 肉に 從って 戰っているのではない．
- わたしたちの 戰いの 武器は， 肉のものではなく， 神のためには 要塞をも 破壞するほどの 力あるものである． わたしたちはさまざまな 議論を 破り，
- 神の 知惠に 逆らって 立てられたあらゆる 障害物を 打ちこわし， すべての 思いをとりこにして キリスト に 服從させ，

- And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
- Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.
- For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
- That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
- For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

- そして， あなたがたが 完全に 服從した 時， すべて 不從順な 者を 處罰しようと， 用意しているのである．
- あなたがたは， うわべの 事だけを 見ている． もしある 人が， キリスト に 屬する 者だと 自任しているなら， その 人はもう 一度よく 反省すべきである． その 人が キリスト に 屬する 者であるように， わたしたちもそうである．
- たとい， あなたがたを 倒すためではなく 高めるために 主からわたしたちに 賜わった 權威について， わたしがやや 誇りすぎたとしても， 恥にはなるまい．
- ただ， わたしは， 手紙であなたがたをおどしているのだと， 思われたくはない．
- 人は 言う， 「彼の 手紙は 重味があって 力强いが， 會って 見ると 外見は 弱¿しく， 話はつまらない 」．

- Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
- For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
- But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
- For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
- Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

- そういう 人は 心得ているがよい． わたしたちは， 離れていて 書きおくる 手紙の 言葉どおりに， 一緖にいる 時でも 同じようにふるまうのである．
- わたしたちは， 自己推薦をするような 人¿と 自分を 同列においたり 比較したりはしない． 彼らは 仲間同志で 互にはかり 合ったり， 互に 比べ 合ったりしているが， 知惠のないしわざである．
- しかし， わたしたちは 限度をこえて 誇るようなことはしない． むしろ， 神が 割り 當てて 下さった 地域の 限度內で 誇るにすぎない． わたしはその 限度にしたがって， あなたがたの 所まで 行ったのである．
- わたしたちは， あなたがたの 所まで 行けない 者であるかのように， むりに 手を 延ばしているのではない． 事實， わたしたちが 最初に キリスト の 福音を 携えて， あなたがたの 所までも 行ったのである．
- わたしたちは 限度をこえて， 他人の ¿きを 誇るようなことはしない． ただ， あなたがたの 信仰が 成長するにつれて， わたしたちの ¿きの 範圍があなたがたの 中でますます 大きくなることを 望んでいる．

- To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.
- But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
- For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

- こうして， わたしたちはほかの 人の 地域ですでになされていることを 誇ることはせずに， あなたがたを 越えたさきざきにまで， 福音を 宣べ 傳えたい．
- 誇る 者は 主を 誇るべきである．
- 自分で 自分を 推薦する 人ではなく， 主に 推薦される 人こそ， 確かな 人なのである．
