- さて， わたしは， まもなく テモテ をあなたがたのところに 送りたいと， 主 イエス にあって 願っている． それは， あなたがたの 樣子を 知って， わたしも 力づけられたいからである．
- テモテ のような 心で， 親身になってあなたがたのことを 心配している 者は， ほかにひとりもない．
- 人はみな， 自分のことを 求めるだけで， キリスト · イエス のことは 求めていない．
- しかし， テモテ の 鍊達ぶりは， あなたがたの 知っているとおりである． すなわち， 子が 父に 對するようにして， わたしと 一緖に 福音に 仕えてきたのである．
- そこで， この 人を， わたしの 成行きがわかりしだい， すぐにでも， そちらへ 送りたいと 願っている．

- わたし 自身もまもなく 行けるものと， 主にあって 確信している．
- しかし， さしあたり， わたしの 同勞者で 戰友である 兄弟， また， あなたがたの 使者としてわたしの 窮乏を 補ってくれた エパフロデト を， あなたがたのもとに 送り 返すことが 必要だと 思っている．
- 彼は， あなたがた 一同にしきりに 會いたがっているからである． その 上， 自分の 病氣のことがあなたがたに 聞えたので， 彼は 心苦しく 思っている．
- 彼は 實に， ひん 死の 病氣にかかったが， 神は 彼をあわれんで 下さった． 彼ばかりではなく， わたしをもあわれんで 下さったので， わたしは 悲しみに 悲しみを 重ねないですんだのである．
- そこで， 大急ぎで 彼を 送り 返す． これで， あなたがたは 彼と 再び 會って 喜び， わたしもまた， 心配を 和らげることができよう．

- Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
- Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

- こういうわけだから， 大いに 喜んで， 主にあって 彼を 迎えてほしい． また， こうした 人¿は 尊重せねばならない．
- 彼は， わたしに 對してあなたがたが 奉仕のできなかった 分を 補おうとして， キリスト のわざのために 命をかけ， 死ぬばかりになったのである．
