- But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
- Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
- Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
- For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
- But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

- しかし 兄弟たちよ． あなたがたは 暗やみの 中にいないのだから， その 日が， 盜人のようにあなたがたを 不意に 襲うことはないであろう．
- あなたがたはみな 光の 子であり， ¿の 子なのである． わたしたちは， 夜の 者でもやみの 者でもない．
- だから， ほかの 人¿のように 眠っていないで， 目をさまして 愼んでいよう．
- 眠る 者は 夜眠り， 醉う 者は 夜醉うのである．
- しかし， わたしたちは ¿の 者なのだから， 信仰と 愛との 胸當を 身につけ， 救の 望みのかぶとをかぶって， 愼んでいよう．

- For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
- Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
- Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
- And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
- And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

- 神は， わたしたちを 怒りにあわせるように 定められたのではなく， わたしたちの 主 イエス · キリスト によって 救を 得るように 定められたのである．
- キリスト がわたしたちのために 死なれたのは， さめていても 眠っていても， わたしたちが 主と 共に 生きるためである．
- だから， あなたがたは， 今しているように， 互に 慰め 合い， 相互の 德を 高めなさい．
- 兄弟たちよ． わたしたちはお 願いする． どうか， あなたがたの 間で 勞し， 主にあってあなたがたを 指導し， かつ 訓戒している 人¿を 重んじ，
- 彼らの ¿きを 思って， 特に 愛し 敬いなさい． 互に 平和に 過ごしなさい．

- Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
- See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
- Rejoice evermore.
- Pray without ceasing.
- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

- 兄弟たちよ． あなたがたにお 勸めする． 怠惰な 者を 戒め， 小心な 者を 勵まし， 弱い 者を 助け， すべての 人に 對して 寬容でありなさい．
- だれも 惡をもって 惡に 報いないように 心がけ， お 互に， またみんなに 對して， いつも 善を 追い 求めなさい．
- いつも 喜んでいなさい．
- 絶えず 祈りなさい．
- すべての 事について， 感謝しなさい． これが， キリスト · イエス にあって， 神があなたがたに 求めておられることである．

- Quench not the Spirit.
- Despise not prophesyings.
- Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
- Abstain from all appearance of evil.
- And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

- 御靈を 消してはいけない．
- 預言を 輕んじてはならない．
- すべてのものを 識別して， 良いものを 守り，
- あらゆる 種類の 惡から 遠ざかりなさい．
- どうか， 平和の 神ご 自身が， あなたがたを 全くきよめて 下さるように． また， あなたがたの 靈と 心とからだとを 完全に 守って， わたしたちの 主 イエス · キリスト の 來臨のときに， 責められるところのない 者にして 下さるように．

- Brethren, pray for us.
- Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
- I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
