- For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
- To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
- Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
- Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
- And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

- この メルキゼデク は サレム の 王であり， いと 高き 神の 祭司であったが， 王たちを 擊破して 歸る アブラハム を 迎えて 祝福し，
- それに 對して， アブラハム は 彼にすべての 物の 十分の 一を 分け 與えたのである． その 名の 意味は， 第一に 義の 王， 次にまた サレム の 王， すなわち 平和の 王である．
- 彼には 父がなく， 母がなく， 系圖がなく， 生涯の 初めもなく， 生命の 終りもなく， 神の 子のようであって， いつまでも 祭司なのである．
- そこで， 族長の アブラハム が 最もよいぶんどり 品の 十分の 一を 與えたのだから， この 人がどんなにすぐれた 人物であったかが， あなたがたにわかるであろう．
- さて， レビ の 子のうちで 祭司の 務をしている 者たちは， 兄弟である 民から， 同じく アブラハム の 子孫であるにもかかわらず， 十分の 一を 取るように， 律法によって 命じられている．

- But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
- And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
- And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
- And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
- For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

- ところが， 彼らの 血統に 屬さないこの 人が， アブラハム から 十分の 一を 受けとり， 約束を 受けている 者を 祝福したのである．
- 言うまでもなく， 小なる 者が 大なる 者から 祝福を 受けるのである．
- その 上， 一方では 死ぬべき 人間が， 十分の 一を 受けているが， 他方では「彼は 生きている 者 」とあかしされた 人が， それを 受けている．
- そこで， 十分の 一を 受けるべき レビ でさえも， アブラハム を 通じて 十分の 一を 納めた， と 言える．
- なぜなら， メルキゼデク が アブラハム を 迎えた 時には， レビ はまだこの 父祖の 腰の 中にいたからである．

- If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
- For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
- For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
- For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
- And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

- もし 全うされることが レビ 系の 祭司制によって 可能であったら ――民は 祭司制の 下に 律法を 與えられたのであるが ――なんの 必要があって， なお， 「アロン に 等しい 」と 呼ばれない， 別な「メルキゼデク に 等しい 」祭司が 立てられるのであるか．
- 祭司制に 變更があれば， 律法にも 必ず 變更があるはずである．
- さて， これらのことは， いまだかつて 祭壇に 奉仕したことのない， 他の 部族に 關して 言われているのである．
- というのは， わたしたちの 主が ユダ 族の 中から 出られたことは， 明らかであるが， モ ― セ は， この 部族について， 祭司に 關することでは， ひとことも 言っていない．
- そしてこの 事は， メルキゼデク と 同樣な， ほかの 祭司が 立てられたことによって， ますます 明白になる．

- Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
- For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

- 彼は， 肉につける 戒めの 律法によらないで， 朽ちることのないいのちの 力によって 立てられたのである．
- それについては， 聖書に「あなたこそは， 永遠に， メルキゼデク に 等しい 祭司である 」とあかしされている．
