- And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
- Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.
- Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
- Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
- And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

- このほか， 何を 言おうか． もし ギデオン ， バラク ， サムソン ， エフタ ， ダビデ ， サムエル 及び 預言者たちについて 語り 出すなら， 時間が 足りないであろう．
- 彼らは 信仰によって， 國¿を 征服し， 義を 行い， 約束のものを 受け， ししの 口をふさぎ，
- 火の 勢いを 消し， つるぎの 刃をのがれ， 弱いものは 强くされ， 戰いの 勇者となり， 他國の 軍を 退かせた．
- 女たちは， その 死者たちをよみがえらさせてもらった． ほかの 者は， 更にまさったいのちによみがえるために， 拷問の 苦しみに 甘んじ， 放免されることを 願わなかった．
- なおほかの 者たちは， あざけられ， むち 打たれ， しばり 上げられ， 投獄されるほどのめに 會った．

- They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
- (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
- And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
- God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

- あるいは， 石で 打たれ， さいなまれ， のこぎりで 引かれ， つるぎで 切り 殺され， 羊の 皮や， やぎの 皮を 着て 步きまわり， 無一物になり， 惱まされ， 苦しめられ，
- （この 世は 彼らの 住む 所ではなかった ）， 荒野と 山の 中と 岩の 穴と 土の 穴とを， さまよい 續けた．
- さて， これらの 人¿はみな， 信仰によってあかしされたが， 約束のものは 受けなかった．
- 神はわたしたちのために， さらに 良いものをあらかじめ 備えて 下さっているので， わたしたちをほかにしては 彼らが 全うされることはない．
