- Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
- For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
- Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
- Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
- Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

- 王の 前で 自ら 高ぶってはならない， 偉い 人の 場に 立ってはならない．
- 尊い 人の 前で 下にさげられるよりは， 「ここに 上がれ 」といわれるほうがましだ．
- あなたが 目に 見たことを， 輕¿しく 法廷に 出してはならない． あとになり， あなたが 隣り 人にはずかしめられるとき， あなたはどうしようとするのか．
- 隣り 人と 爭うことがあるならば， ただその 人と 爭え， 他人の 秘密をもらしてはならない．
- そうでないと， 聞く 者があなたをいやしめ， あなたは， いつまでもそしられる．
