- There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
- The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
- The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
- The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
- The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

- この 地上に， 小さいけれども， 非常に 賢いものが 四つある．
- ありは 力のない 種類だが， その 食糧を 夏のうちに 備える．
- 岩だぬきは 强くない 種類だが， その 家を 岩につくる．
- いなごは 王がないけれども， みな 隊を 組んでいで 立つ．
- やもりは 手でつかまえられるが， 王の 宮殿におる．

- There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:
- A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
- A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
- If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
- Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

- 步きぶりの 堂¿たる 者が 三つある， いや， 四つあって， みな 堂¿と 步く．
- すなわち ¿のうちでもっとも 强く， 何ものの 前にも 退かない， しし，
- 尾を 立てて 步くおんどり， 雄やぎ， その 民の 前をいばって 步く 王がそれである．
- あなたがもし 愚かであって 自ら 高ぶり， あるいは 惡事を 計ったならば， あなたの 手を 口に 當てるがよい．
- 乳をしめれば 凝乳が 出る， 鼻をしめれば 血がでる， 怒りをしめれば 爭いが 起る．
