- And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
- Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
- And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
- And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
- And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?

- 一行が エルサレム へ 上って 行く 途中， イエス は 先頭に 立って 進んで 行かれた． それを 見て， 弟子たちは 驚き， 從う 者たちは 恐れた． イエス は 再び 十二人を 呼び 寄せて， 自分の 身に 起ころうとしていることを 話し 始められた．
- 「今， わたしたちは エルサレム へ 上って 行く． 人の 子は 祭司長たちや 律法學者たちに 引き 渡される． 彼らは 死刑を 宣告して 異邦人に 引き 渡す．
- 異邦人は 人の 子を 侮辱し， 唾をかけ， 鞭打ったうえで 殺す． そして， 人の 子は 三日の 後に 復活する． 」
- ゼベダイ の 子 ヤコブ と ヨハネ が 進み 出て， イエス に 言った． 「先生， お 願いすることをかなえていただきたいのですが． 」
- イエス が， 「何をしてほしいのか 」と 言われると，

- They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.
- But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
- And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
- But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
- And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.

- 二人は 言った． 「榮光をお 受けになるとき， わたしどもの 一人をあなたの 右に， もう 一人を 左に 座らせてください． 」
- イエス は 言われた． 「あなたがたは， 自分が 何を 願っているか， 分かっていない． このわたしが 飮む 杯を 飮み， このわたしが 受ける 洗禮を 受けることができるか． 」
- 彼らが， 「できます 」と 言うと， イエス は 言われた． 「確かに， あなたがたはわたしが 飮む 杯を 飮み， わたしが 受ける 洗禮を 受けることになる．
- しかし， わたしの 右や 左にだれが 座るかは， わたしの 決めることではない． それは， 定められた 人¿に 許されるのだ． 」
- ほかの 十人の 者はこれを 聞いて， ヤコブ と ヨハネ のことで 腹を 立て 始めた．

- But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
- But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
- And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
- For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

- そこで， イエス は 一同を 呼び 寄せて 言われた． 「あなたがたも 知っているように， 異邦人の 間では， 支配者と 見なされている 人¿が 民を 支配し， 偉い 人たちが 權力を 振るっている．
- しかし， あなたがたの 間では， そうではない． あなたがたの 中で 偉くなりたい 者は， 皆に 仕える 者になり，
- いちばん 上になりたい 者は， すべての 人の 僕になりなさい．
- 人の 子は 仕えられるためではなく 仕えるために， また， 多くの 人の 身代金として 自分の 命を 獻げるために 來たのである． 」
