- Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
- And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
- And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
- And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
- And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

- さて， 月が 滿ちて， エリサベト は 男の 子を 産んだ．
- 近所の 人¿や 親類は， 主が エリサベト を 大いに 慈しまれたと 聞いて 喜び 合った．
- 八日目に， その 子に 割禮を 施すために 來た 人¿は， 父の 名を 取って ザカリア と 名付けようとした．
- ところが， 母は， 「いいえ， 名は ヨハネ としなければなりません 」と 言った．
- しかし 人¿は， 「あなたの 親類には， そういう 名の 付いた 人はだれもいない 」と 言い，

- And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
- And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
- And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
- And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
- And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

- 父親に， 「この 子に 何と 名を 付けたいか 」と 手振りで 尋ねた．
- 父親は 字を 書く 板を 出させて， 「この 子の 名は ヨハネ 」と 書いたので， 人¿は 皆驚いた．
- すると， たちまち ザカリア は 口が 開き， 舌がほどけ， 神を 贊美し 始めた．
- 近所の 人¿は 皆恐れを 感じた． そして， このことすべてが， ユダヤ の 山里中で 話題になった．
- 聞いた 人¿は 皆これを 心に 留め， 「いったい， この 子はどんな 人になるのだろうか 」と 言った． この 子には 主の 力が 及んでいたのである．

- And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
- Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
- And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
- As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
- That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

- 父 ザカリア は 聖靈に 滿たされ， こう 預言した．
- 「ほめたたえよ， イスラエル の 神である 主を． 主はその 民を 訪れて 解放し，
- 我らのために 救いの 角を， ／僕 ダビデ の 家から 起こされた．
- 昔から 聖なる 預言者たちの 口を 通して ／語られたとおりに．
- それは， 我らの 敵， ／すべて 我らを 憎む 者の 手からの 救い．

- To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
- The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
- That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
- In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
- And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

- 主は 我らの 先祖を 憐れみ， ／その 聖なる 契約を 覺えていてくださる．
- これは 我らの 父 アブラハム に 立てられた 誓い． こうして 我らは，
- 敵の 手から 救われ， ／恐れなく 主に 仕える，
- 生涯， 主の 御前に 淸く 正しく．
- 幼子よ， お 前はいと 高き 方の 預言者と 呼ばれる． 主に 先立って 行き， その 道を 整え，

- To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
- Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
- To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
- And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

- 主の 民に 罪の 赦しによる 救いを ／知らせるからである．
- これは 我らの 神の 憐れみの 心による． この 憐れみによって， ／高い 所からあけぼのの 光が 我らを 訪れ，
- 暗闇と 死の 陰に 座している 者たちを 照らし， ／我らの 步みを 平和の 道に 導く． 」
- 幼子は 身も 心も 健やかに 育ち， イスラエル の 人¿の 前に 現れるまで 荒れ 野にいた．
