- Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
- And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
- And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
- And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
- For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

- イエス は， 民衆にこれらの 言葉をすべて 話し 終えてから， カファルナウム に 入られた．
- ところで， ある 百人隊長に 重んじられている 部下が， 病氣で 死にかかっていた．
- イエス のことを 聞いた 百人隊長は， ユダヤ 人の 長老たちを 使いにやって， 部下を 助けに 來てくださるように 賴んだ．
- 長老たちは イエス のもとに 來て， 熱心に 願った． 「あの 方は， そうしていただくのにふさわしい 人です．
- わたしたち ユダヤ 人を 愛して， 自ら 會堂を 建ててくれたのです． 」

- Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
- Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
- For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
- When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
- And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

- そこで， イエス は 一緖に 出かけられた． ところが， その 家からほど 遠からぬ 所まで 來たとき， 百人隊長は 友達を 使いにやって 言わせた． 「主よ， 御足勞には 及びません． わたしはあなたを 自分の 屋根の 下にお 迎えできるような 者ではありません．
- ですから， わたしの 方からお 伺いするのさえふさわしくないと 思いました． ひと 言おっしゃってください． そして， わたしの 僕をいやしてください．
- わたしも 權威の 下に 置かれている 者ですが， わたしの 下には 兵隊がおり， 一人に『行け 』と 言えば 行きますし， 他の 一人に『來い 』と 言えば 來ます． また 部下に『これをしろ 』と 言えば， そのとおりにします． 」
- イエス はこれを 聞いて 感心し， 從っていた 群衆の 方を 振り 向いて 言われた． 「言っておくが， イスラエル の 中でさえ， わたしはこれほどの 信仰を 見たことがない． 」
- 使いに 行った 人たちが 家に 歸ってみると， その 部下は 元氣になっていた．
