사무엘상

본서는 지파 중심의 사사 체제에서 중앙 집권적 왕정 체제로의 변천 과정과 이스라엘을 통치하시는 하나님의 섭리, 즉 하나님께서는 인간의 삶뿐만 아니라 모든 민족의 삶을 주관하시는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 사무엘은 이스라엘의 초대 왕 사울과 그 뒤를 이은 다윗에게 기름을 부어 왕으로 삼음으로써 이스라엘의 왕정을 세우는 데 결정적인 역할을 했다.

본서는 사무엘(1-7장), 사울(8-15장), 다윗(16-31장)을 중심으로 하여 전개된다. 타락한 제사장들과 사사들 때문에 백성들이 왕을 세워 줄 것을 요구하자, 하나님께서는 사울을 왕으로 세우신다. 그러나 그가 불순종하자 그를 버리고 다윗에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼으신다.

	사무엘상 1:1-2:36 자식이 없어 고통을 당하던 한나는 하나님께 기도하고 통곡하며 서원하여 그토록 소원하던 아들 사무엘을 낳아 하나님께 드렸다. 이에 한나는 자신의 기도에 응답하신 하나님의 절대 주권과 능력을 찬양했다. 당시의 제사장 겸 사사인 엘리의 아들들이 하나님께 범죄함으로 인해 그 집안에 대한 하나님의 심판이 선고되었다.

	사무엘의 출생(1:1-1:28)

Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

彼女を敵と見るペニナは，主が子供をお授けにならないことでハンナを思い惱ませ，苦しめた．

每年このようにして，ハンナが主の家に上るたびに，彼女はペニナのことで苦しんだ．今度もハンナは泣いて，何も食べようとしなかった．

夫エルカナはハンナに言った．「ハンナよ，なぜ泣くのか．なぜ食べないのか．なぜふさぎ ¿んでいるのか．このわたしは，あなたにとって十人の息子にもまさるではないか．」

さて，シロでのいけにえの食事が終わり，ハンナは立ち上がった．祭司エリは主の神殿の柱に近い席に着いていた．

ハンナは惱み嘆いて主に祈り，激しく泣いた．

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

そして，誓いを立てて言った．「万軍の主よ，はしための苦しみを御覽ください．はしために御心を留め，忘れることなく，男の子をお授けくださいますなら，その子の一生を主におささげし，その子の頭には決してかみそりを當てません．」

ハンナが主の御前であまりにも長く祈っているので，エリは彼女の口もとを注意して見た．

ハンナは心のうちで祈っていて，唇は動いていたが聲は聞こえなかった．エリは彼女が酒に醉っているのだと思い，

彼女に言った．「いつまで醉っているのか．醉いをさましてきなさい．」

ハンナは答えた．「いいえ，祭司樣，違います．わたしは深い惱みを持った女です．ぶどう酒も强い酒も飮んではおりません．ただ，主の御前に心からの願いを注ぎ出しておりました．

Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

はしためを墮落した女だと誤解なさらないでください．今まで祈っていたのは，訴えたいこと，苦しいことが多くあるからです．」そこでエリは，

「安心して歸りなさい．イスラエルの神が，あなたの乞い願うことをかなえてくださるように」と答えた．

ハンナは，「はしためが御厚意を得ますように」と言ってそこを離れた．それから食事をしたが，彼女の表情はもはや前のようではなかった．

一家は朝早く起きて主の御前で禮拜し，ラマにある自分たちの家に歸って行った．エルカナは妻ハンナを知った．主は彼女を御心に留められ，

ハンナは身ごもり，月が滿ちて男の子を産んだ．主に願って得た子供なので，その名をサムエル（その名は神）と名付けた．

And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

さて，夫エルカナが家族と共に年ごとのいけにえと自分の滿願の獻げ物を主にささげるために上って行こうとしたとき，

ハンナは行こうとせず，夫に言った．「この子が乳離れしてから，一緖に主の御顔を仰ぎに行きます．そこにこの子をいつまでもとどまらせましょう．」

夫エルカナは妻に言った．「あなたがよいと思うようにしなさい．この子が乳離れするまで待つがよい．主がそのことを成就してくださるように．」ハンナはとどまって子に乳を與え，乳離れするまで育てた．

乳離れした後，ハンナは三歲の雄牛一頭，麥粉を一エファ，ぶどう酒の革袋を一つ携え，その子を連れてシロの主の家に上って行った．この子は幼子にすぎなかったが，

人¿は雄牛を屠り，その子をエリのもとに連れて行った．

And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

ハンナは言った．「祭司樣，あなたは生きておられます．わたしは，ここであなたのそばに立って主に祈っていたあの女です．

わたしはこの子を授かるようにと祈り，主はわたしが願ったことをかなえてくださいました．

わたしは，この子を主にゆだねます．この子は生涯，主にゆだねられた者です．」彼らはそこで主を禮拜した．

	한나의 기도(2:1-2:11)

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

ハンナは祈って言った．「主にあってわたしの心は喜び／主にあってわたしは角を高く上げる．わたしは敵に對して口を大きく開き／御救いを喜び祝う．

聖なる方は主のみ．あなたと ¿ぶ者はだれもいない．岩と賴むのはわたしたちの神のみ．

梶り高ぶるな，高ぶって語るな．思い上がった言葉を口にしてはならない．主は何事も知っておられる神／人の行いが正されずに濟むであろうか．

勇士の弓は折られるが／よろめく者は力を帶びる．

食べ飽きている者はパンのために雇われ／飢えている者は再び飢えることがない．子のない女は七人の子を産み／多くの子をもつ女は衰える．

The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

主は命を絶ち，また命を與え／陰府に下し，また引き上げてくださる．

主は貧しくし，また富ませ／低くし，また高めてくださる．

弱い者を塵の中から立ち上がらせ／貧しい者を芥の中から高く上げ／高貴な者と共に座に着かせ／榮光の座を嗣業としてお與えになる．大地のもろもろの柱は主のもの／主は世界をそれらの上に据えられた．

主の慈しみに生きる者の足を主は守り／主に逆らう者を闇の沈默に落とされる．人は力によって勝つのではない．

主は逆らう者を打ち ¿き／天から彼らに雷鳴をとどろかされる．主は地の果てまで裁きを及ぼし／王に力を與え／油注がれた者の角を高く上げられる．」

And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

エルカナはラマの家に歸った．幼子は祭司エリのもとにとどまって，主に仕えた．

	엘리의 아들들(2:12-2:36)

Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

エリの息子はならず者で，主を知ろうとしなかった．

この祭司たちは，人¿に對して次のように行った．だれかがいけにえをささげていると，その肉を煮ている間に，祭司の下¿きが三つまたの肉刺しを手にやって來て，

釜や鍋であれ，鉢や皿であれ，そこに突き入れた．肉刺しが突き上げたものはすべて，祭司のものとした．彼らは，シロに詣でるイスラエルの人¿すべてに對して，このように行った．

そればかりでなく，人¿が供え物の脂肪を燃やして煙にする前に，祭司の下¿きがやって來て，いけにえをささげる人に言った．「祭司樣のために燒く肉をよこしなさい．祭司は煮た肉は受け取らない．生でなければならない．」

「いつものように脂肪をすっかり燃やして煙になってから，あなたの思いどおりに取ってください」と言っても，下¿きは，「今，よこしなさい．さもなければ力ずくで取る」と答えるのであった．

Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

この下¿きたちの罪は主に對する甚だ大きな罪であった．この人¿が主への供え物を輕んじたからである．

サムエルは，亞麻布のエフォドを着て，下¿きとして主の御前に仕えていた．

母は彼のために小さな上着を縫い，每年，夫と一緖に年ごとのいけにえをささげに上って來るとき，それを屆けた．

エリはエルカナとその妻を祝福し，「主に願って得たこの子の代わりに，主があなたにこの妻による子供を授けてくださいますように」と言った．こうして彼らは家に歸った．

主がハンナを顧みられたので，ハンナは身ごもり，息子を三人と娘を二人産んだ．少年サムエルは主のもとで成長した．

Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.

If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

エリは非常に年老いていた．息子たちがイスラエルの人¿すべてに對して行っていることの一部始終，それに，臨在の幕屋の入り口で仕えている女たちとたびたび床を共にしていることも耳にして，

彼らを諭した．「なぜそのようなことをするのだ．わたしはこの民のすべての者から，お前たちについて惡いうわさを聞かされている．

息子らよ，それはいけない．主の民が觸れ回り，わたしの耳にも入ったうわさはよくない．

人が人に罪を犯しても，神が間に立ってくださる．だが，人が主に罪を犯したら，誰が執り成してくれよう．」しかし，彼らは父の聲に耳を貸そうとしなかった．主は彼らの命を絶とうとしておられた．

一方，少年サムエルはすくすくと育ち，主にも人¿にも喜ばれる者となった．

And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

神の人がエリのもとに來て告げた．「主はこう言われる．あなたの先祖がエジプトでファラオの家に服從していたとき，わたしは自らをあなたの先祖に明らかに示し，

わたしのためにイスラエルの全部族の中からあなたの先祖を選んで祭司とし，わたしの祭壇に上って香をたかせ，エフォドを着せてわたしの前に立たせた．また，わたしはあなたの先祖の家に，イスラエルの子らが燃やして主にささげる物をすべて與えた．

あなたはなぜ，わたしが命じたいけにえと獻げ物をわたしの住む所でないがしろにするのか．なぜ，自分の息子をわたしよりも大事にして，わたしの民イスラエルが供えるすべての獻げ物の中から最上のものを取って，自分たちの私腹を肥やすのか．

それゆえ，イスラエルの神，主は言われる．わたしは確かに，あなたの家とあなたの先祖の家はとこしえにわたしの前に步む，と約束した．主は言われる．だが，今は決してそうはさせない．わたしを重んずる者をわたしは／重んじ，わたしを侮る者をわたしは輕んずる．

あなたの家に長命の者がいなくなるように，わたしがあなたの腕とあなたの先祖の家の腕を切り落とす日が來る．

And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

あなたは，わたしの住む所がイスラエルに與える幸いをすべて敵視するようになる．あなたの家には永久に長命の者はいなくなる．

わたしは，あなたの家の一人だけは，わたしの祭壇から斷ち切らないでおく．それはあなたの目をくらまし，命を盡きさせるためだ．あなたの家の男子がどれほど多くとも皆，壯年のうちに死ぬ．

あなたの二人の息子ホフニとピネハスの身に起こることが，あなたにとってそのしるしとなる．二人は同じ日に死ぬ．

わたしはわたしの心，わたしの望みのままに事を行う忠實な祭司を立て，彼の家を確かなものとしよう．彼は生涯，わたしが油を注いだ者の前を步む．

あなたの家の生き殘った者は皆，彼のもとに來て身をかがめ，銀一枚，パン一切れを乞い，『一切れのパンでも食べられるように，祭司の仕事の一つに就かせてください』と言うであろう．」
