- Then said the high priest, Are these things so?
- And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
- And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
- Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
- And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

- 大祭司が， 「訴えのとおりか 」と 尋ねた．
- そこで， ステファノ は 言った． 「兄弟であり 父である 皆さん， 聞いてください． わたしたちの 父 アブラハム が メソポタミア にいて， まだ ハラン に 住んでいなかったとき， 榮光の 神が 現れ，
- 『あなたの 土地と 親族を 離れ， わたしが 示す 土地に 行け 』と 言われました．
- それで， アブラハム は カルデア 人の 土地を 出て， ハラン に 住みました． 神は アブラハム を， 彼の 父が 死んだ 後， ハラン から 今あなたがたの 住んでいる 土地にお 移しになりましたが，
- そこでは 財産を 何もお 與えになりませんでした， 一步の 幅の 土地さえも． しかし， そのとき， まだ 子供のいなかった アブラハム に 對して， 『いつかその 土地を 所有地として 與え， 死後には 子孫たちに 相續させる 』と 約束なさったのです．

- And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.
- And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.
- And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.
- And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
- And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

- 神はこう 言われました． 『彼の 子孫は， 外國に 移住し， 四百年の 間， 奴隷にされて 虐げられる． 』
- 更に， 神は 言われました． 『彼らを 奴隷にする 國民は， わたしが 裁く． その 後， 彼らはその 國から 脫出し， この 場所でわたしを 禮拜する． 』
- そして， 神は アブラハム と 割禮による 契約を 結ばれました． こうして， アブラハム は イサク をもうけて 八日目に 割禮を 施し， イサク は ヤコブ を， ヤコブ は 十二人の 族長をもうけて， それぞれ 割禮を 施したのです．
- この 族長たちは ヨセフ をねたんで， エジプト へ 賣ってしまいました． しかし， 神は ヨセフ を 離れず，
- あらゆる 苦難から 助け 出して， エジプト 王 ファラオ のもとで 惠みと 知惠をお 授けになりました． そして ファラオ は， 彼を エジプト と 王の 家全體とをつかさどる 大臣に 任命したのです．

- Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.
- But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.
- And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.
- Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.
- So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

- ところが， エジプト と カナン の 全土に 飢鴨が 起こり， 大きな 苦難が 襲い， わたしたちの 先祖は 食糧を 手に 入れることができなくなりました．
- ヤコブ は エジプト に 穀物があると 聞いて， まずわたしたちの 先祖をそこへ 行かせました．
- 二度目のとき， ヨセフ は 兄弟たちに 自分の 身の 上を 明かし， ファラオ も ヨセフ の 一族のことを 知りました．
- そこで， ヨセフ は 人を 遣わして， 父 ヤコブ と 七十五人の 親族一同を 呼び 寄せました．
- ヤコブ は エジプト に 下って 行き， やがて 彼もわたしたちの 先祖も 死んで，

- And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.
- But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,
- Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.
- The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.
- In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:

- シケム に 移され， かつて アブラハム が シケム で ハモル の 子らから， 幾らかの 金で 買っておいた 墓に 葬られました．
- 神が アブラハム になさった 約束の 實現する 時が 近づくにつれ， 民は 增え， エジプト 中に 廣がりました．
- それは， ヨセフ のことを 知らない 別の 王が， エジプト の 支配者となるまでのことでした．
- この 王は， わたしたちの 同胞を 欺き， 先祖を 虐待して 乳飮み 子を 捨てさせ， 生かしておかないようにしました．
- このときに， モ ― セ が 生まれたのです． 神の 目に 適った 美しい 子で， 三か 月の 間， 父の 家で 育てられ，

- And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.
- And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
- And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
- And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:
- For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

- その 後， 捨てられたのを ファラオ の 王女が 拾い 上げ， 自分の 子として 育てたのです．
- そして， モ ― セ は エジプト 人のあらゆる 敎育を 受け， すばらしい 話や 行いをする 者になりました．
- 四十歲になったとき， モ ― セ は 兄弟である イスラエル の 子らを 助けようと 思い 立ちました．
- それで， 彼らの 一人が 虐待されているのを 見て 助け， 相手の エジプト 人を 打ち 殺し， ひどい 目に 遭っていた 人のあだを 討ったのです．
- モ ― セ は， 自分の 手を 通して 神が 兄弟たちを 救おうとしておられることを， 彼らが 理解してくれると 思いました． しかし， 理解してくれませんでした．

- And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?
- But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?
- Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?
- Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.
- And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

- 次の 日， モ ― セ は イスラエル 人が 互いに 爭っているところに 來合わせたので， 仲直りをさせようとして 言いました． 『君たち， 兄弟どうしではないか． なぜ， 傷つけ 合うのだ． 』
- すると， 仲間を 痛めつけていた 男は， モ ― セ を 突き 飛ばして 言いました． 『だれが， お 前を 我¿の 指導者や 裁判官にしたのか．
- きのう エジプト 人を 殺したように， わたしを 殺そうとするのか． 』
- モ ― セ はこの 言葉を 聞いて， 逃げ 出し， そして， ミディアン 地方に 身を 寄せている 間に， 二人の 男の 子をもうけました．
- 四十年たったとき， シナイ 山に 近い 荒れ 野において， 柴の 燃える 炎の 中で， 天使が モ ― セ の 前に 現れました．

- When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him,
- Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.
- Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
- I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.
- This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

- モ ― セ は， この 光景を 見て 驚きました． もっとよく 見ようとして 近づくと， 主の 聲が 聞こえました．
- 『わたしは， あなたの 先祖の 神， アブラハム ， イサク ， ヤコブ の 神である 』と． モ ― セ は 恐れおののいて， それ 以上見ようとはしませんでした．
- そのとき， 主はこう 仰せになりました． 『履物を 脫げ． あなたの 立っている 所は 聖なる 土地である．
- わたしは， エジプト にいるわたしの 民の 不幸を 確かに 見屆け， また， その 嘆きを 聞いたので， 彼らを 救うために 降って 來た． さあ， 今あなたを エジプト に 遣わそう． 』
- 人¿が， 『だれが， お 前を 指導者や 裁判官にしたのか 』と 言って 拒んだこの モ ― セ を， 神は 柴の 中に 現れた 天使の 手を 通して， 指導者また 解放者としてお 遣わしになったのです．

- He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

- この 人が エジプト の 地でも 紅海でも， また 四十年の 間， 荒れ 野でも， 不思議な 業としるしを 行って 人¿を 導き 出しました．
