- There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
- A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
- He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
- And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
- And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

- さて， カイサリア に コルネリウス という 人がいた． 「イタリア 隊 」と 呼ばれる 部隊の 百人隊長で，
- 信仰心あつく， 一家そろって 神を 畏れ， 民に 多くの 施しをし， 絶えず 神に 祈っていた．
- ある 日の 午後三時ごろ， コルネリウス は， 神の 天使が 入って 來て「コルネリウス 」と 呼びかけるのを， 幻ではっきりと 見た．
- 彼は 天使を 見つめていたが， 怖くなって， 「主よ， 何でしょうか 」と 言った． すると， 天使は 言った． 「あなたの 祈りと 施しは， 神の 前に 屆き， 覺えられた．
- 今， ヤッファ へ 人を 送って， ペトロ と 呼ばれる シモン を 招きなさい．

- He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
- And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
- And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
- On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
- And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

- その 人は， 革なめし 職人 シモン という 人の 客になっている． シモン の 家は 海岸にある． 」
- 天使がこう 話して 立ち 去ると， コルネリウス は 二人の 召し 使いと， 側近の 部下で 信仰心のあつい 一人の 兵士とを 呼び，
- すべてのことを 話して ヤッファ に 送った．
- 翌日， この 三人が 旅をして ヤッファ の 町に 近づいたころ， ペトロ は 祈るため 屋上に 上がった． ¿の 十二時ごろである．
- 彼は 空腹を 覺え， 何か 食べたいと 思った． 人¿が 食事の 準備をしているうちに， ペトロ は 我を 忘れたようになり，

- And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
- Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
- And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
- But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
- And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

- 天が 開き， 大きな 布のような 入れ 物が， 四隅でつるされて， 地上に 下りて 來るのを 見た．
- その 中には， あらゆる ¿， 地を 這うもの， 空の 鳥が 入っていた．
- そして， 「ペトロ よ， 身を 起こし， 屠って 食べなさい 」と 言う 聲がした．
- しかし， ペトロ は 言った． 「主よ， とんでもないことです． 淸くない 物， 汚れた 物は 何一つ 食べたことがありません． 」
- すると， また 聲が 聞こえてきた． 「神が 淸めた 物を， 淸くないなどと， あなたは 言ってはならない． 」

- This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
- Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
- And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
- While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
- Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

- こういうことが 三度あり， その 入れ 物は 急に 天に 引き 上げられた．
- ペトロ が， 今見た 幻はいったい 何だろうかと， ひとりで 思案に 暮れていると， コルネリウス から 差し 向けられた 人¿が， シモン の 家を 探し 當てて 門口に 立ち，
- 聲をかけて， 「ペトロ と 呼ばれる シモン という 方が， ここに 泊まっておられますか 」と 尋ねた．
- ペトロ がなおも 幻について 考え ¿んでいると， “靈 ＂がこう 言った． 「三人の 者があなたを 探しに 來ている．
- 立って 下に 行き， ためらわないで 一緖に 出發しなさい． わたしがあの 者たちをよこしたのだ． 」

- Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
- And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
- Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

- ペトロ は， その 人¿のところへ 降りて 行って， 「あなたがたが 探しているのは， このわたしです． どうして， ここへ 來られたのですか 」と 言った．
- すると， 彼らは 言った． 「百人隊長の コルネリウス は， 正しい 人で 神を 畏れ， すべての ユダヤ 人に 評判の 良い 人ですが， あなたを 家に 招いて 話を 聞くようにと， 聖なる 天使からお 告げを 受けたのです． 」
- それで， ペトロ はその 人たちを 迎え 入れ， 泊まらせた． 翌日， ペトロ はそこをたち， 彼らと 出かけた． ヤッファ の 兄弟も 何人か 一緖に 行った．
