- What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
- For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
- So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
- For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
- Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

- では， どういうことになるのか． 神に 不義があるのか． 決してそうではない．
- 神は モ ― セ に， ／「わたしは 自分が 憐れもうと 思う 者を 憐れみ， ／慈しもうと 思う 者を 慈しむ 」と 言っておられます．
- 從って， これは， 人の 意志や 努力ではなく， 神の 憐れみによるものです．
- 聖書には ファラオ について， 「わたしがあなたを 立てたのは， あなたによってわたしの 力を 現し， わたしの 名を 全世界に 告げ 知らせるためである 」と 書いてあります．
- このように， 神は 御自分が 憐れみたいと 思う 者を 憐れみ， かたくなにしたいと 思う 者をかたくなにされるのです．

- Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
- Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
- Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
- What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
- And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

- ところで， あなたは 言うでしょう． 「ではなぜ， 神はなおも 人を 責められるのだろうか． だれが 神の 御心に 逆らうことができようか 」と．
- 人よ， 神に 口答えするとは， あなたは 何者か． 造られた 物が 造った 者に， 「どうしてわたしをこのように 造ったのか 」と 言えるでしょうか．
- 燒き 物師は 同じ 粘土から， 一つを 貴いことに 用いる 器に， 一つを 貴くないことに 用いる 器に 造る 權限があるのではないか．
- 神はその 怒りを 示し， その 力を 知らせようとしておられたが， 怒りの 器として 滅びることになっていた 者たちを 寬大な 心で 耐え 忍ばれたとすれば，
- それも， 憐れみの 器として 榮光を 與えようと 準備しておられた 者たちに， 御自分の 豊かな 榮光をお 示しになるためであったとすれば， どうでしょう．

- Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
- As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
- And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
- Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
- For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

- 神はわたしたちを 憐れみの 器として， ユダヤ 人からだけでなく， 異邦人の 中からも 召し 出してくださいました．
- ホセア の 書にも， 次のように 述べられています． 「わたしは， 自分の 民でない 者をわたしの 民と 呼び， ／愛されなかった 者を 愛された 者と 呼ぶ．
- 『あなたたちは， わたしの 民ではない 』／と 言われたその 場所で， ／彼らは 生ける 神の 子らと 呼ばれる． 」
- また， イザヤ は イスラエル について， 叫んでいます． 「たとえ イスラエル の 子らの 數が 海邊の 砂のようであっても， 殘りの 者が 救われる．
- 主は 地上において 完全に， しかも 速やかに， 言われたことを 行われる． 」

- And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

- それはまた， イザヤ があらかじめこう 告げていたとおりです． 「万軍の 主がわたしたちに 子孫を 殘されなかったら， ／わたしたちは ソドム のようになり， ／ ゴモラ のようにされたであろう． 」
