- Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
- I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
- Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
- But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
- But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

- 未婚の 人たちについて， わたしは 主の 指示を 受けてはいませんが， 主の 憐れみにより 信任を 得ている 者として， 意見を 述べます．
- 今危機が 迫っている 狀態にあるので， こうするのがよいとわたしは 考えます． つまり， 人は 現狀にとどまっているのがよいのです．
- 妻と 結ばれているなら， そのつながりを 解こうとせず， 妻と 結ばれていないなら 妻を 求めてはいけない．
- しかし， あなたが， 結婚しても， 罪を 犯すわけではなく， 未婚の 女が 結婚しても， 罪を 犯したわけではありません． ただ， 結婚する 人たちはその 身に 苦勞を 負うことになるでしょう． わたしは， あなたがたにそのような 苦勞をさせたくないのです．
- 兄弟たち， わたしはこう 言いたい． 定められた 時は 迫っています． 今からは， 妻のある 人はない 人のように，

- And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
- And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
- But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
- But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
- There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

- 泣く 人は 泣かない 人のように， 喜ぶ 人は 喜ばない 人のように， 物を 買う 人は 持たない 人のように，
- 世の 事にかかわっている 人は， かかわりのない 人のようにすべきです． この 世の 有樣は 過ぎ 去るからです．
- 思い 煩わないでほしい． 獨身の 男は， どうすれば 主に 喜ばれるかと， 主のことに 心を 遣いますが，
- 結婚している 男は， どうすれば 妻に 喜ばれるかと， 世の 事に 心を 遣い，
- 心が 二つに 分かれてしまいます． 獨身の 女や 未婚の 女は， 體も 靈も 聖なる 者になろうとして， 主のことに 心を 遣いますが， 結婚している 女は， どうすれば 夫に 喜ばれるかと， 世の 事に 心を 遣います．

- And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
- But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
- Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
- So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
- The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

- このようにわたしが 言うのは， あなたがたのためを 思ってのことで， 決してあなたがたを 束縛するためではなく， 品位のある 生活をさせて， ひたすら 主に 仕えさせるためなのです．
- もし， ある 人が 自分の 相手である 娘に 對して， 情熱が 强くなり， その 誓いにふさわしくないふるまいをしかねないと 感じ， それ 以上自分を 抑制できないと 思うなら， 思いどおりにしなさい． 罪を 犯すことにはなりません． 二人は 結婚しなさい．
- しかし， 心にしっかりした 信念を 持ち， 無理に 思いを 抑えつけたりせずに， 相手の 娘をそのままにしておこうと 決心した 人は， そうしたらよいでしょう．
- 要するに， 相手の 娘と 結婚する 人はそれで 差し 支えありませんが， 結婚しない 人の 方がもっとよいのです．
- 妻は 夫が 生きている 間は 夫に 結ばれていますが， 夫が 死ねば， 望む 人と 再婚してもかまいません． ただし， 相手は 主に 結ばれている 者に 限ります．

- But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

- しかし， わたしの 考えによれば， そのままでいる 方がずっと 幸福です． わたしも 神の 靈を 受けていると 思います．
