- 愛を 追い 求めなさい． 靈的な 賜物， 特に 預言するための 賜物を 熱心に 求めなさい．
- 異言を 語る 者は， 人に 向かってではなく， 神に 向かって 語っています． それはだれにも 分かりません． 彼は 靈によって 神秘を 語っているのです．
- しかし， 預言する 者は， 人に 向かって 語っているので， 人を 造り 上げ， 勵まし， 慰めます．
- 異言を 語る 者が 自分を 造り 上げるのに 對して， 預言する 者は 敎會を 造り 上げます．
- あなたがた 皆が 異言を 語れるにこしたことはないと 思いますが， それ 以上に， 預言できればと 思います． 異言を 語る 者がそれを 解釋するのでなければ， 敎會を 造り 上げるためには， 預言する 者の 方がまさっています．

- Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
- And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
- For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
- So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
- There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

- だから 兄弟たち， わたしがあなたがたのところに 行って 異言を 語ったとしても， 啓示か 知識か 預言か 敎えかによって 語らなければ， あなたがたに 何の 役に 立つでしょう．
- 笛であれ 竪琴であれ， 命のない 樂器も， もしその 音に 變化がなければ， 何を 吹き， 何を 彈いているのか， どうして 分かるでしょう．
- ラッパ がはっきりした 音を 出さなければ， だれが 戰いの 準備をしますか．
- 同じように， あなたがたも 異言で 語って， 明確な 言葉を 口にしなければ， 何を 話しているか， どうして 分かってもらえましょう． 空に 向かって 語ることになるからです．
- 世にはいろいろな 種類の 言葉があり， どれ 一つ 意味を 持たないものはありません．

- Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

- あなたがたの 場合も 同じで， 靈的な 賜物を 熱心に 求めているのですから， 敎會を 造り 上げるために， それをますます 豊かに 受けるように 求めなさい．
- だから， 異言を 語る 者は， それを 解釋できるように 祈りなさい．
- わたしが 異言で 祈る 場合， それはわたしの 靈が 祈っているのですが， 理性は 實を 結びません．
- では， どうしたらよいのでしょうか． 靈で 祈り， 理性でも 祈ることにしましょう． 靈で 贊美し， 理性でも 贊美することにしましょう．

- Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
- For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
- I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
- Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
