	예레미야 42:1-44:14 애굽을 향하던 요하난 일행이 하나님의 뜻을 묻자, 예레미야는 유다 땅에 머물면 안전하지만 애굽으로 가면 치욕을 당할 것이라고 답변했다. 그러나 요하난 일행은 하나님의 말씀을 무시하고 애굽으로 갔다. 이에 예레미야는 상징적 행동을 통해 그들이 우상을 섬기면 예루살렘에 임한 심판이 애굽에도 임하게 될 것이라고 경고했다.

	애굽 이주와 하나님의 경고(42:1-42:22)

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

カレアの子ヨハナンとホシャヤの子エザンヤをはじめ，すべての軍の長と民の全員が，身分の上下を問わず，訪ねて來て，

預言者エレミヤに言った．「どうか，我¿の願いを受け入れてください．我¿のため，またこの殘った人¿のために，あなたの神である主に祈ってください．御覽のとおり，大勢の中からわずかに，我¿だけが殘ったのです．

あなたの神である主に求めて，我¿に步むべき道，なすべきことを示していただきたいのです．」

預言者エレミヤは答えた．「承知しました．おっしゃるとおり，あなたたちの神である主に祈りましょう．主があなたたちに答えられるなら，そのすべての言葉をお傳えします．」

すると，人¿はエレミヤに言った．「主が我¿に對して眞實の證人となられますように．わたしたちは，必ずあなたの神である主が，あなたを我¿に遣わして告げられる言葉のとおり，すべて實行することを誓います．

Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;

If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

良くても惡くても，我¿はあなたを遣わして語られる我¿の神である主の御聲に聞き從います．我¿の神である主の御聲に聞き從うことこそ最善なのですから．」

十日たって，主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ．

そこで，エレミヤはカレアの子ヨハナンと，彼と共にいたすべての軍の長たちをはじめ，身分の上下を問わず，民の全員を召集し，

次のように語った．「あなたたちは，わたしを主のもとに遣わし，あなたたちの願いを受け入れてくださるよう求めさせたが，そのイスラエルの神，主はこう言われる．

もし，あなたたちがこの國にとどまるならば，わたしはあなたたちを立て，倒しはしない．植えて，拔きはしない．わたしはあなたたちにくだした災いを悔いている．

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,

Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

今，あなたたちはバビロンの王を恐れているが，彼を恐れてはならない．彼を恐れるな，と主は言われる．わたしがあなたたちと共にいて，必ず救い，彼の手から助け出すからである．

わたしはあなたたちに憐れみを示す．バビロンの王もあなたたちに憐れみを示して，この土地に住むことを許すであろう．

もしあなたたちが，『我¿はこの國にとどまることはできない』と言って，あなたたちの神である主の聲に聞き從わず，

また，『いや，エジプトの地へ行こう．あそこでは戰爭もないし，危險を知らせる角笛の音もせず，食べ物がなくて飢えることもない．あそこへ行って住もう』と言うなら，

今，ユダの殘った人¿よ，主の言葉を聞くがよい．イスラエルの神，万軍の主はこう言われる．もしあなたたちが，どうしてもエジプトへ行こうと決意し，そこに行って寄留するなら，

Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

まさに，あなたたちが恐れている劍が，エジプトの地で襲いかかり，心配している飢えがエジプトまで後を追ってとりつき，あなたたちはそこで死ぬ．

エジプトへ行って寄留しようと決意している者はすべて劍，飢鴨，疫病で死ぬ．わたしが臨ませる災いを免れ，生き殘る者はひとりもない．

まことに，イスラエルの神，万軍の主はこう言われる．あなたたちがエジプトへ行けば，わたしの怒りと憤りがエルサレムの住民にふりかかったように，あなたたちにふりかかる．あなたたちは，呪い，恐怖，ののしり，恥辱の的となり，二度とこの場所を見ることはできない．

ユダの殘った人¿よ，主はあなたたちに對して，『エジプトへ行ってはならない』と語られた．今日，わたしがこの警告を傳えたことを，しっかり心に留めなさい．

あなたたちは，致命的な誤りを犯そうとしている．『我¿のために我¿の神である主に祈ってください．我¿の神である主が語られることを知らせてくださるなら，すべてそのとおりにします』と言って，わたしをあなたたちの神である主のもとに遣わしたのは，あなたたち自身である．

And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.

そこで，わたしが今日それを告げたのに，自分の神である主の聲を聞こうとせず，主がわたしを遣わして語られたことを全く聞こうとしない．

だから今，行って寄留しようとしているその場所で，あなたたちは劍，飢鴨，疫病によって死ぬことを，しっかりと知らねばならない．」

And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,

Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon.

So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah.

But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;

彼らの神である主がエレミヤを遣わして傳えさせたすべての言葉を，彼が民の全員に語り終えたとき，

ホシャヤの子アザルヤ，カレアの子ヨハナンおよび高慢な人¿はエレミヤに向かって言った．「あなたの言っていることは僞りだ．我¿の神である主はあなたを遣わしていない．主は，『エジプトへ行って寄留してはならない』と言ってはおられない．

ネリヤの子バルクがあなたを唆して，我¿に對立させ，我¿をカルデア人に渡して殺すか，あるいは捕囚としてバビロンへ行かせようとしているのだ．」

こうして，カレアの子ヨハナンと軍の長たちすべて，および民の全員は，ユダの地にとどまれ，という主の聲に聞き從わなかった．

カレアの子ヨハナンと軍の長たちはすべて，避難先の國¿からユダの國に引き揚げて來たユダの殘留民をすべて集めた．

Even men, and women, and children, and the king's daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.

So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.

Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;

And say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

そこには，親衛隊長ネブザルアダンが，シャファンの孫でアヒカムの子であるゲダルヤに託した男，女，子供，王の娘たちをはじめすべての人¿，および預言者エレミヤ，ネリヤの子バルクがいた．

そして彼らは主の聲に聞き從わず，エジプトの地へ赴き，タフパンヘスにたどりついた．

主の言葉がタフパンヘスでエレミヤに臨んだ．

「大きな石を手に取り，ユダの人¿の見ている前で，ファラオの宮殿の入り口の敷石の下にモルタルで埋め ¿み，

彼らに言いなさい．イスラエルの神，万軍の主はこう言われる．わたしは使者を遣わして，わたしの僕であるバビロンの王ネブカドレツァルを招き寄せ，彼の王座を，今埋めたこの大石の上に置く．彼は天蓋をその上に張る．

And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword.

And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace.

He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

彼は來て，エジプトの地を擊ち，疫病に定められた者を疫病に，捕囚に定められた者を捕囚に，劍に定められた者を劍に渡す．

彼はエジプトの神殿に火を放ち，神殿を燒き拂い，また神¿を奪い去る．また羊飼いが上着のしらみを拂い落とすように，エジプトの國土を打ち拂って，安らかに引き揚げて行く．

また，エジプトの太陽の神殿のオベリスクを破壞し，エジプトの神¿の神殿を火で燒き拂う．」

	우상 숭배로 인한 심판(44:1-44:14)

The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,

Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.

Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.

エジプトのミグドル，タフパンヘス，メンフィスならびに上エジプト地方に住む，ユダの人¿に對する言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ．

「イスラエルの神，万軍の主はこう言われる．エルサレムとユダのすべての町にわたしがくだしたあらゆる災いをお前たちは見た．これらの町¿は今や廢虛と化し，住む者もない．

これは，彼らが惡を行ってわたしを怒らせたためである．彼らは自ら ――お前たちも父祖たちも ――知らなかった異敎の神¿のもとへ行って香をたき，禮拜した．

わたしは，わが僕である預言者たちをお前たちのところへ繰り返し派遣して，わたしが憎むこの忌まわしいことを行ってはならないと命じた．

しかし，彼らは聞かず，耳を傾けず，惡を改めず，異敎の神¿に香をたくことをやめなかった．

Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.

Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;

In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

そこでわたしの怒りと憤りがお前たちにふりかかり，ユダの町¿とエルサレムの巷で燃え上がったので，今日のように荒れ果てて廢虛と化した．

そこで今，イスラエルの神，万軍の神である主はこう言われる．なぜ，お前たちは自分の身にこのように大きな惡を行い，男，女，子供，乳飮み子までユダの國から絶たれてひとりも殘らないようにするのか．

何故，お前たちは移って寄留しているエジプトで，自分の手で偶像を造り，異敎の神¿に香をたき，わたしを怒らせ，自分を滅ぼし，世界のあらゆる國¿で，ののしりと恥辱の的となるのか．

ユダの國とエルサレムの巷で行われたお前たちの父祖の惡，ユダの王と王妃たちの惡，また，お前たち自身と妻たちの惡を忘れたのか．

今日に至るまで，だれひとり悔いて，神を畏れようとはせず，またわたしがお前たちと父祖たちに授けた律法と ¿に從って步もうとはしなかった．

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.

And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:

So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.

それゆえ，イスラエルの神，万軍の主はこう言われる．わたしは，必ずお前たちに災いをくだし，ユダをことごとく滅ぼす．

ユダに殘っている者で，あくまでエジプトへ行って寄留しようとする人¿をわたしは取り除く．彼らはひとり殘らずエジプトの地で滅びる．彼らは劍と飢鴨で倒れ，身分の上下を問わず，劍によって滅ぼされ，飢鴨で死に絶え，呪い，恐怖，ののしり，恥辱の的となる．

旣にエルサレムを劍，飢鴨，疫病をもって罰したように，わたしはエジプトに住む者を罰する．

エジプトの地へ移って寄留しているユダの殘留者には，難を免れ生き殘り，ユダの地に歸りうる者はひとりもない．彼らは再びそこに歸って住むことを切望しているが，少數の難を免れた者を除けば，だれも歸ることはできない．」
