- And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
- Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.
- Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
- Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
- And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

- これ 以上， 何を 話そう． もし ギデオン ， バラク ， サムソン ， エフタ ， ダビデ ， サムエル ， また 預言者たちのことを 語るなら， 時間が 足りないでしょう．
- 信仰によって， この 人たちは 國¿を 征服し， 正義を 行い， 約束されたものを 手に 入れ， 獅子の 口をふさぎ，
- 燃え 盛る 火を 消し， 劍の 刃を 逃れ， 弱かったのに 强い 者とされ， 戰いの 勇者となり， 敵軍を 敗走させました．
- 女たちは， 死んだ 身內を 生き 返らせてもらいました． 他の 人たちは， 更にまさったよみがえりに 達するために， 釋放を 拒み， 拷問にかけられました．
- また， 他の 人たちはあざけられ， 鞭打たれ， 鎖につながれ， 投獄されるという 目に 遭いました．

- They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
- (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
- And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
- God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

- 彼らは 石で 打ち 殺され， のこぎりで 引かれ， 劍で 切り 殺され， 羊の 皮や 山羊の 皮を 着て 放浪し， 暮らしに 事欠き， 苦しめられ， 虐待され，
- 荒れ 野， 山， 岩穴， 地の 割れ 目をさまよい 步きました． 世は 彼らにふさわしくなかったのです．
- ところで， この 人たちはすべて， その 信仰のゆえに 神に 認められながらも， 約束されたものを 手に 入れませんでした．
- 神は， わたしたちのために， 更にまさったものを 計畵してくださったので， わたしたちを 除いては， 彼らは 完全な 狀態に 達しなかったのです．
