- This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
- That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
- Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
- And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
- For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

- 愛する 人たち， わたしはあなたがたに 二度目の 手紙を 書いていますが， それは， これらの 手紙によってあなたがたの 記憶を 呼び 起こして， 純眞な 心を 奮い 立たせたいからです．
- 聖なる 預言者たちがかつて 語った 言葉と， あなたがたの 使徒たちが 傳えた， 主であり 救い 主である 方の ¿を 思い 出してもらうためです．
- まず， 次のことを 知っていなさい． 終わりの 時には， 欲望の 赴くままに 生活してあざける 者たちが 現れ， あざけって，
- こう 言います． 「主が 來るという 約束は， いったいどうなったのだ． 父たちが 死んでこのかた， 世の 中のことは， 天地創造の 初めから 何一つ 變わらないではないか． 」
- 彼らがそのように 言うのは， 次のことを 認めようとしないからです． すなわち， 天は 大昔から 存在し， 地は 神の 言葉によって 水を 元として， また 水によってできたのですが，

- Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
- But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
- But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
- The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

- 當時の 世界は， その 水によって 洪水に 押し 流されて 滅んでしまいました．
- しかし， 現在の 天と 地とは， 火で 滅ぼされるために， 同じ 御言葉によって 取っておかれ， 不信心な 者たちが 裁かれて 滅ぼされる 日まで， そのままにしておかれるのです．
- 愛する 人たち， このことだけは 忘れないでほしい． 主のもとでは， 一日は 千年のようで， 千年は 一日のようです．
- ある 人たちは， 遲いと 考えているようですが， 主は 約束の 實現を 遲らせておられるのではありません． そうではなく， 一人も 滅びないで 皆が 悔い 改めるようにと， あなたがたのために 忍耐しておられるのです．
- 主の 日は 盜人のようにやって 來ます． その 日， 天は 激しい 音をたてながら 消えうせ， 自然界の 諸要素は 熱に 熔け 盡くし， 地とそこで 造り 出されたものは 暴かれてしまいます．

- Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
- Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
- Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
- Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
- And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

- このように， すべてのものは 滅び 去るのですから， あなたがたは 聖なる 信心深い 生活を 送らなければなりません．
- 神の 日の 來るのを 待ち 望み， また， それが 來るのを 早めるようにすべきです． その 日， 天は 燒け 崩れ， 自然界の 諸要素は 燃え 盡き， 熔け 去ることでしょう．
- しかしわたしたちは， 義の 宿る 新しい 天と 新しい 地とを， 神の 約束に 從って 待ち 望んでいるのです．
- だから， 愛する 人たち， このことを 待ち 望みながら， きずや 汚れが 何一つなく， 平和に 過ごしていると 神に 認めていただけるように 勵みなさい．
- また， わたしたちの 主の 忍耐深さを， 救いと 考えなさい． それは， わたしたちの 愛する 兄弟 パウロ が， 神から 授かった 知惠に 基づいて， あなたがたに 書き 送ったことでもあります．

- As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
- Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
- But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

- 彼は， どの 手紙の 中でもこのことについて 述べています． その 手紙には 難しく 理解しにくい 個所があって， 無學な 人や 心の 定まらない 人は， それを 聖書のほかの 部分と 同樣に 曲解し， 自分の 滅びを 招いています．
- それで， 愛する 人たち， あなたがたはこのことをあらかじめ 知っているのですから， 不道德な 者たちに 唆されて， 堅固な 足場を 失わないように 注意しなさい．
- わたしたちの 主， 救い 主 イエス · キリスト の 惠みと 知識において， 成長しなさい． この イエス · キリスト に， 今も， また 永遠に 榮光がありますように， ア ― メン ．
