창세기 32:1-33:20

 야곱은 형 에서와 화해하기 위해 사람들을 보냈지만, 그들로부터 에서가 큰 무리를 이끌고 온다는 보고를 받자 두려워 떨었다. 야곱은 모든 소유를 얍복 강 건너편으로 보내고 홀로 그곳에 남아 하나님의 사자와 날이 새도록 씨름하던 끝에 환도뼈가 부러졌다. 그러나 결국 하나님의 복을 받고 이름도 이스라엘로 불리게 되었다. 에서와 화해한 야곱은 세겜에 이르러 단을 쌓았다.
  
  하나님과 씨름하는 야곱(32:1-32:32)    
 
  1. さて， ヤコブ が 旅路に 進んだとき， 神の 使たちが 彼に 會った．
  2. ヤコブ は 彼らを 見て， 「これは 神の 陣營です 」と 言って， その 所の 名を マハナイム と 名づけた．
  3. ヤコブ は セイル の 地， エドム の 野に 住む 兄 エサウ のもとに， さきだって 使者をつかわした．
  4. すなわちそれに 命じて 言った， 「あなたがたはわたしの 主人 エサウ にこう 言いなさい， 『あなたのしもべ ヤコブ はこう 言いました． わたしは ラバン のもとに 寄留して 今までとどまりました．
  5. わたしは 牛， ろば， 羊， 男女の 奴隷を 持っています． それでわが 主に 申し 上げて， あなたの 前に 惠みを 得ようと 人をつかわしたのです 』」．
  1. Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
  2. When Jacob saw them, he said, "This is the camp of God!" So he named that place Mahanaim.
  3. Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
  4. He instructed them: "This is what you are to say to my master Esau: 'Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.
  5. I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, menservants and maidservants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.' "
  1. 使者は ヤコブ のもとに 歸って 言った， 「わたしたちはあなたの 兄 エサウ のもとへ 行きました． 彼もまたあなたを 迎えようと 四百人を 率いてきます 」．
  2. そこで ヤコブ は 大いに 恐れ， 苦しみ， 共にいる 民および 羊， 牛， らくだを 二つの 組に 分けて，
  3. 言った， 「たとい， エサウ がきて， 一つの 組を 擊っても， 殘りの 組はのがれるであろう 」．
  4. ヤコブ はまた 言った， 「父 アブラハム の 神， 父 イサク の 神よ， かつてわたしに『おまえの 國へ 歸り， おまえの 親族に 行け． わたしはおまえを 惠もう 』と 言われた 主よ，
  5. あなたがしもべに 施されたすべての 惠みとまことをわたしは 受けるに 足りない 者です． わたしは， つえのほか 何も 持たないでこの ヨルダン を 渡りましたが， 今は 二つの 組にもなりました．
  1. When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, "We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him."
  2. In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well.
  3. He thought, "If Esau comes and attacks one group, the group that is left may escape."
  4. Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me, 'Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,'
  5. I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two groups.
  1. どうぞ， 兄 エサウ の 手からわたしをお 救いください． わたしは 彼がきて， わたしを 擊ち， 母や 子供たちにまで 及ぶのを 恐れます．
  2. あなたは， かつて， 『わたしは 必ずおまえを 惠み， おまえの 子孫を 海の 砂の 數えがたいほど 多くしよう 』と 言われました 」．

  1. Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.
  2. But you have said, 'I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.' "
  3. He spent the night there, and from what he had with him he selected a gift for his brother Esau:
  4. two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
  5. thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.
  1. 彼はこれらをそれぞれの 群れに 分けて， しもべたちの 手にわたし， しもべたちに 言った， 「あなたがたはわたしの 先に 進みなさい， そして 群れと 群れとの 間には 隔たりをおきなさい 」．
  2. また 先頭の 者に 命じて 言った， 「もし， 兄 エサウ があなたに 會って『だれのしもべで， どこへ 行くのか． あなたの 前にあるこれらのものはだれの 物か 』と 尋ねたら，
  3. 『あなたのしもべ ヤコブ の 物で， わが 主 エサウ におくる 贈り 物です． 彼もわたしたちのうしろにおります 』と 言いなさい 」．
  4. 彼は 第二の 者にも， 第三の 者にも， また 群れ 群れについて 行くすべての 者にも 命じて 言った， 「あなたがたが エサウ に 會うときは， 同じように 彼に 告げて，
  5. 『あなたのしもべ ヤコブ もわれわれのうしろにおります 』と 言いなさい 」． ヤコブ は， 「わたしがさきに 送る 贈り 物をもってまず 彼をなだめ， それから， 彼の 顔を 見よう． そうすれば， 彼はわたしを 迎えてくれるであろう 」と 思ったからである．
  1. He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, "Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds."
  2. He instructed the one in the lead: "When my brother Esau meets you and asks, 'To whom do you belong, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?'
  3. then you are to say, 'They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.' "
  4. He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: "You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.
  5. And be sure to say, 'Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.' " For he thought, "I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me."
  1. こうして 贈り 物は 彼に 先立って 渡り， 彼はその 夜， 宿營にやどった．
  2. 彼はその 夜起きて， ふたりの 妻とふたりのつかえめと 十一人の 子どもとを 連れて ヤボク の 渡しをわたった．
  3. すなわち 彼らを 導いて 川を 渡らせ， また 彼の 持ち 物を 渡らせた．
  4. ヤコブ はひとりあとに 殘ったが， ひとりの 人が， 夜明けまで 彼と 組打ちした．
  5. ところでその 人は ヤコブ に 勝てないのを 見て， ヤコブ のもものつがいにさわったので， ヤコブ のもものつがいが， その 人と 組打ちするあいだにはずれた．
  1. So Jacob's gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.
  2. That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.
  3. After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.
  4. So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.
  5. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.
  1. その 人は 言った， 「夜が 明けるからわたしを 去らせてください 」． ヤコブ は 答えた， 「わたしを 祝福してくださらないなら， あなたを 去らせません 」．
  2. その 人は 彼に 言った， 「あなたの 名はなんと 言いますか 」． 彼は 答えた， 「ヤコブ です 」．
  3. その 人は 言った， 「あなたはもはや 名を ヤコブ と 言わず， イスラエル と 言いなさい． あなたが 神と 人とに， 力を 爭って 勝ったからです 」．
  4. ヤコブ は 尋ねて 言った， 「どうかわたしにあなたの 名を 知らせてください 」． するとその 人は， 「なぜあなたはわたしの 名をきくのですか 」と 言ったが， その 所で 彼を 祝福した．
  5. そこで ヤコブ はその 所の 名を ペニエル と 名づけて 言った， 「わたしは 顔と 顔をあわせて 神を 見たが， なお 生きている 」．
  1. Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
  2. The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered.
  3. Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."
  4. Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.
  5. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."
  1. こうして 彼が ペニエル を 過ぎる 時， 日は 彼の 上にのぼったが， 彼はそのもものゆえに 步くのが 不自由になっていた．
  2. そのため， イスラエル の 子らは 今日まで， もものつがいの 上にある 腰の 筋を 食べない． かの 人が ヤコブ のもものつがい， すなわち 腰の 筋にさわったからである．
  1. The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.
  2. Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob's hip was touched near the tendon.
 
  에서와의 화해(33:1-33:20)    
 
  1. さて ヤコブ は 目をあげ， エサウ が 四百人を 率いて 來るのを 見た． そこで 彼は 子供たちを 分けて レア と ラケル とふたりのつかえめとにわたし，
  2. つかえめとその 子供たちをまっ 先に 置き， レア とその 子供たちを 次に 置き， ラケル と ヨセフ を 最後に 置いて，
  3. みずから 彼らの 前に 進み， 七たび 身を 地にかがめて， 兄に 近づいた．
  4. すると エサウ は 走ってきて 迎え， 彼を 抱き， そのくびをかかえて 口づけし， 共に 泣いた．
  5. エサウ は 目をあげて 女と 子供たちを 見て 言った， 「あなたと 一緖にいるこれらの 者はだれですか 」． ヤコブ は 言った， 「神がしもべに 授けられた 子供たちです 」．
  1. Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two maidservants.
  2. He put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear.
  3. He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.
  4. But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.
  5. Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. "Who are these with you?" he asked. Jacob answered, "They are the children God has graciously given your servant."
  1. そこでつかえめたちはその 子供たちと 共に 近寄ってお 辭儀した．
  2. レア もまたその 子供たちと 共に 近寄ってお 辭儀し， それから ヨセフ と ラケル が 近寄ってお 辭儀した．
  3. すると エサウ は 言った， 「わたしが 出會ったあのすべての 群れはどうしたのですか 」． ヤコブ は 言った， 「わが 主の 前に 惠みを 得るためです 」．
  4. エサウ は 言った， 「弟よ， わたしはじゅうぶんもっている． あなたの 物はあなたのものにしなさい 」．
  5. ヤコブ は 言った， 「いいえ， もしわたしがあなたの 前に 惠みを 得るなら， どうか， わたしの 手から 贈り 物を 受けてください． あなたが 喜んでわたしを 迎えてくださるので， あなたの 顔を 見て， 神の 顔を 見るように 思います．
  1. Then the maidservants and their children approached and bowed down.
  2. Next, Leah and her children came and bowed down. Last of all came Joseph and Rachel, and they too bowed down.
  3. Esau asked, "What do you mean by all these droves I met?" "To find favor in your eyes, my lord," he said.
  4. But Esau said, "I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself."
  5. "No, please!" said Jacob. "If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.
  1. どうかわたしが 持ってきた 贈り 物を 受けてください． 神がわたしを 惠まれたので， わたしはじゅうぶんもっていますから 」． こうして 彼がしいたので， 彼は 受け 取った．
  2. そして エサウ は 言った， 「さあ， 立って 行こう． わたしが 先に 行く 」．
  3. ヤコブ は 彼に 言った， 「ごぞんじのように， 子供たちは， かよわく， また 乳を 飮ませている 羊や 牛をわたしが 世話をしています． もし 一日でも 步かせ 過ぎたら 群れはみな 死んでしまいます．
  4. わが 主よ， どうか， しもべの 先においでください． わたしはわたしの 前にいる 家畜と 子供たちの 步みに 合わせて， ゆっくり 步いて 行き， セイル でわが 主と 一緖になりましょう 」．
  5. エサウ は 言った， 「それならわたしが 連れている 者どものうち 幾人かをあなたのもとに 殘しましょう 」． ヤコブ は 言った， 「いいえ， それには 及びません． わが 主の 前に 惠みを 得させてください 」．
  1. Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need." And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.
  2. Then Esau said, "Let us be on our way; I'll accompany you."
  3. But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.
  4. So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the droves before me and that of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir."
  5. Esau said, "Then let me leave some of my men with you." "But why do that?" Jacob asked. "Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."
  1. その 日 エサウ は セイル への 歸途についた．
  2. ヤコブ は 立って スコテ に 行き， 自分のために 家を 建て， また 家畜のために 小屋を 造った． これによってその 所の 名は スコテ と 呼ばれている．
  3. こうして ヤコブ は パダンアラム からきて， 無事 カナン の 地の シケム の 町に 着き， 町の 前に 宿營した．
  4. 彼は 天幕を 張った 野の 一部を シケム の 父 ハモル の 子らの 手から 百 ケシタ で 買い 取り，
  5. そこに 祭壇を 建てて， これを エル · エロヘ · イスラエル と 名づけた．
  1. So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.
  2. Jacob, however, went to Succoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Succoth.
  3. After Jacob came from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.
  4. For a hundred pieces of silver, he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent.
  5. There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.
