- これは， クレニオ が シリヤ の 總督であった 時に 行われた 最初の 人口調査であった．
- 人¿はみな 登錄をするために， それぞれ 自分の 町へ 歸って 行った．
- ヨセフ も ダビデ の 家系であり， またその 血統であったので， ガリラヤ の 町 ナザレ を 出て， ユダヤ の ベツレヘム という ダビデ の 町へ 上って 行った．
- それは， すでに 身重になっていたいいなづけの 妻 マリヤ と 共に， 登錄をするためであった．

- In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
- (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
- And everyone went to his own town to register.
- So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
- He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

- ところが， 彼らが ベツレヘム に 滯在している 間に， マリヤ は 月が 滿ちて，
- 初子を 産み， 布にくるんで， 飼葉おけの 中に 寢かせた． 客間には 彼らのいる 余地がなかったからである．
- さて， この 地方で 羊飼たちが 夜， 野宿しながら 羊の 群れの 番をしていた．
- すると 主の 御使が 現れ， 主の 榮光が 彼らをめぐり 照したので， 彼らは 非常に 恐れた．
- 御使は 言った， 「恐れるな． 見よ， すべての 民に 與えられる 大きな 喜びを， あなたがたに 傳える．

- While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
- and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
- And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
- An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
- But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

- きょう ダビデ の 町に， あなたがたのために 救主がお 生れになった． このかたこそ 主なる キリスト である．
- あなたがたは， 幼な 子が 布にくるまって 飼葉おけの 中に 寢かしてあるのを 見るであろう． それが， あなたがたに 與えられるしるしである 」．
- するとたちまち， おびただしい 天の 軍勢が 現れ， 御使と 一緖になって 神をさんびして 言った，
- 「いと 高きところでは， 神に 榮光があるように， 地の 上では， み 心にかなう 人¿に 平和があるように 」．
- 御使たちが 彼らを 離れて 天に 歸ったとき， 羊飼たちは「さあ， ベツレヘム へ 行って， 主がお 知らせ 下さったその 出來事を 見てこようではないか 」と， 互に 語り 合った．

- Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
- This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
- Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
- "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
- When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."

- そして 急いで 行って， マリヤ と ヨセフ ， また 飼葉おけに 寢かしてある 幼な 子を 搜しあてた．
- 彼らに 會った 上で， この 子について 自分たちに 告げ 知らされた 事を， 人¿に 傳えた．
- 人¿はみな， 羊飼たちが 話してくれたことを 聞いて， 不思議に 思った．
- しかし， マリヤ はこれらの 事をことごとく 心に 留めて， 思いめぐらしていた．
- 羊飼たちは， 見聞きしたことが 何もかも 自分たちに 語られたとおりであったので， 神をあがめ， またさんびしながら 歸って 行った．

- So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
- When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
- and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
- But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
- The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

- 八日が 過ぎ， 割禮をほどこす 時となったので， 受胎のまえに 御使が 告げたとおり， 幼な 子を イエス と 名づけた．
- それから， モ ― セ の 律法による 彼らのきよめの 期間が 過ぎたとき， 兩親は 幼な 子を 連れて エルサレム へ 上った．
- それは 主の 律法に「母の 胎を 初めて 開く 男の 子はみな， 主に 聖別された 者と， となえられねばならない 」と 書いてあるとおり， 幼な 子を 主にささげるためであり，

- その 時， エルサレム に シメオン という 名の 人がいた． この 人は 正しい 信仰深い 人で， イスラエル の 慰められるのを 待ち 望んでいた． また 聖靈が 彼に 宿っていた．

- On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived.
- When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
- (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"),
- and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons."
- Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

- そして 主のつかわす 救主に 會うまでは 死ぬことはないと， 聖靈の 示しを 受けていた．
- この 人が 御靈に 感じて 宮にはいった． すると 律法に 定めてあることを 行うため， 兩親もその 子 イエス を 連れてはいってきたので，
- シメオン は 幼な 子を 腕に 抱き， 神をほめたたえて 言った，
- 「主よ， 今こそ， あなたはみ 言葉のとおりに ／この 僕を 安らかに 去らせてくださいます，
- わたしの 目が 今あなたの 救を 見たのですから．

- It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
- Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,
- Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
- "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.
- For my eyes have seen your salvation,

- この 救はあなたが 万民のまえにお 備えになったもので，
- 異邦人を 照す 啓示の 光， み 民 イスラエル の 榮光であります 」．
- 父と 母とは 幼な 子についてこのように 語られたことを， 不思議に 思った．
- すると シメオン は 彼らを 祝し， そして 母 マリヤ に 言った， 「ごらんなさい， この 幼な 子は， イスラエル の 多くの 人を 倒れさせたり 立ちあがらせたりするために， また 反對を 受けるしるしとして， 定められています． ――
- そして， あなた 自身もつるぎで 胸を 刺し 貫かれるでしょう． ――それは 多くの 人の 心にある 思いが， 現れるようになるためです 」．

- which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
- a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."
- The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
- Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
- so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."
