- イエス は 三度目に 言われた， 「ヨハネ の 子 シモン よ， わたしを 愛するか 」． ペテロ は「わたしを 愛するか 」と イエス が 三度も 言われたので， 心をいためて イエス に 言った， 「主よ， あなたはすべてをご 存じです． わたしがあなたを 愛していることは， おわかりになっています 」． イエス は 彼に 言われた， 「わたしの 羊を 養いなさい．
- よくよくあなたに 言っておく． あなたが 若かった 時には， 自分で 帶をしめて， 思いのままに 步きまわっていた． しかし 年をとってからは， 自分の 手をのばすことになろう． そして， ほかの 人があなたに 帶を 結びつけ， 行きたくない 所へ 連れて 行くであろう 」．
- これは， ペテロ がどんな 死に 方で， 神の 榮光をあらわすかを 示すために， お 話しになったのである． こう 話してから， 「わたしに 從ってきなさい 」と 言われた．

- When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
- Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."
- The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."
- Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go."
- Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!"

- ペテロ はふり 返ると， イエス の 愛しておられた 弟子がついて 來るのを 見た． この 弟子は， あの 夕食のとき イエス の 胸近くに 寄りかかって， 「主よ， あなたを 裏切る 者は， だれなのですか 」と 尋ねた 人である．
- ペテロ はこの 弟子を 見て， イエス に 言った， 「主よ， この 人はどうなのですか 」．
- イエス は 彼に 言われた， 「たとい， わたしの 來る 時まで 彼が 生き 殘っていることを， わたしが 望んだとしても， あなたにはなんの 係わりがあるか． あなたは， わたしに 從ってきなさい 」．
- こういうわけで， この 弟子は 死ぬことがないといううわさが， 兄弟たちの 間にひろまった． しかし， イエス は 彼が 死ぬことはないと 言われたのではなく， ただ「たとい， わたしの 來る 時まで 彼が 生き 殘っていることを， わたしが 望んだとしても， あなたにはなんの 係わりがあるか 」と 言われただけである．
- これらの 事についてあかしをし， またこれらの 事を 書いたのは， この 弟子である． そして 彼のあかしが 眞實であることを， わたしたちは 知っている．

- Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?")
- When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?"
- Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me."
- Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"
- This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

- イエス のなさったことは， このほかにまだ 數多くある． もしいちいち 書きつけるならば， 世界もその 書かれた 文書を 收めきれないであろうと 思う．

- Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
