- ひとりの 律法學者がきて， 彼らが 互に 論じ 合っているのを 聞き， また イエス が 巧みに 答えられたのを 認めて， イエス に 質問した， 「すべてのいましめの 中で， どれが 第一のものですか 」．
- イエス は 答えられた， 「第一のいましめはこれである， 『イスラエル よ， 聞け． 主なるわたしたちの 神は， ただひとりの 主である．
- 心をつくし， 精神をつくし， 思いをつくし， 力をつくして， 主なるあなたの 神を 愛せよ 』．
- 第二はこれである， 『自分を 愛するようにあなたの 隣り 人を 愛せよ 』． これより 大事ないましめは， ほかにない 」．
- そこで， この 律法學者は イエス に 言った， 「先生， 仰せのとおりです， 『神はひとりであって， そのほかに 神はない 』と 言われたのは， ほんとうです．

- And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
- And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
- And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
- And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
- And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

- また『心をつくし， 知惠をつくし， 力をつくして 神を 愛し， また 自分を 愛するように 隣り 人を 愛する 』ということは， すべての §祭や ¿牲よりも， はるかに 大事なことです 」．
- イエス は， 彼が 適切な 答をしたのを 見て 言われた， 「あなたは 神の 國から 遠くない 」． それから 後は， イエス にあえて 問う 者はなかった．
- イエス が 宮で 敎えておられたとき， こう 言われた， 「律法學者たちは， どうして キリスト を ダビデ の 子だと 言うのか．
- ダビデ 自身が 聖靈に 感じて 言った， 『主はわが 主に 仰せになった， あなたの 敵をあなたの 足もとに 置くときまでは， わたしの 右に 座していなさい 』．
- このように， ダビデ 自身が キリスト を 主と 呼んでいる． それなら， どうして キリスト は ダビデ の 子であろうか 」． 大ぜいの 群衆は， 喜んで イエス に 耳を 傾けていた．

- And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
- And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
- And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?
- For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
- David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
