	사무엘상 3:1-5:12 하나님께서 어린 사무엘을 부르셔서 엘리 집안의 파멸을 예고하셨고 사무엘은 이것을 엘리에게 말했다. 이스라엘은 블레셋과의 전투에서 패하자 하나님의 궤를 전쟁터로 가져왔으나, 오히려 법궤마저 빼앗기고 엘리의 두 아들들도 죽고 말았다. 그 소식을 들은 엘리는 충격으로 죽었다. 블레셋으로 옮겨진 법궤가 가는 곳마다 큰 재앙이 임했다.

	부름받은 사무엘(3:1-3:21)

わらべサムエルは，エリの前で，主に仕えていた．そのころ，主の言葉はまれで，默示も常ではなかった．

さてエリは，しだいに目がかすんで，見ることができなくなり，そのとき自分のへやで寢ていた．

神のともしびはまだ消えず，サムエルが神の箱のある主の神殿に寢ていた時，

主は「サムエルよ，サムエルよ」と呼ばれた．彼は「はい，ここにおります」と言って，

エリの所へ走っていって言った，「あなたがお呼びになりました．わたしは，ここにおります」．しかしエリは言った，「わたしは呼ばない．歸って寢なさい」．彼は行って寢た．

And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

主はまたかさねて「サムエルよ，サムエルよ」と呼ばれた．サムエルは起きてエリのもとへ行って言った，「あなたがお呼びになりました．わたしは，ここにおります」．エリは言った，「子よ，わたしは呼ばない．もう一度寢なさい」．

サムエルはまだ主を知らず，主の言葉がまだ彼に現されなかった．

主はまた三度目にサムエルを呼ばれたので，サムエルは起きてエリのもとへ行って言った，「あなたがお呼びになりました．わたしは，ここにおります」．その時，エリは主がわらべを呼ばれたのであることを悟った．

そしてエリはサムエルに言った，「行って寢なさい．もしあなたを呼ばれたら，『しもべは聞きます．主よ，お話しください』と言いなさい」．サムエルは行って自分の所で寢た．

主はきて立ち，前のように，「サムエルよ，サムエルよ」と呼ばれたので，サムエルは言った，「しもべは聞きます．お話しください」．

And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

その時，主はサムエルに言われた，「見よ，わたしはイスラエルのうちに一つの事をする．それを聞く者はみな，耳が二つとも鳴るであろう．

その日には，わたしが，かつてエリの家について話したことを，はじめから終りまでことごとく，エリに行うであろう．

わたしはエリに，彼が知っている惡事のゆえに，その家を永久に罰することを告げる．その子らが神をけがしているのに，彼がそれをとめなかったからである．

それゆえ，わたしはエリの家に誓う．エリの家の惡は， ¿牲や供え物をもってしても，永久にあがなわれないであろう」．

サムエルは朝まで寢て，主の宮の戶をあけたが，サムエルはその幻のことをエリに語るのを恐れた．

And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

しかしエリはサムエルを呼んで言った，「わが子サムエルよ」．サムエルは言った，「はい，ここにおります」．

エリは言った，「何事をお告げになったのか．隱さず話してください．もしお告げになったことを一つでも隱して，わたしに言わないならば，どうぞ神があなたを罰し，さらに重く罰せられるように」．

そこでサムエルは，その事をことごとく話して，何も彼に隱さなかった．エリは言った，「それは主である．どうぞ主が，良いと思うことを行われるように」．

サムエルは育っていった．主が彼と共におられて，その言葉を一つも地に落ちないようにされたので，

ダンからベエルシバまで，イスラエルのすべての人は，サムエルが主の預言者と定められたことを知った．

Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.

主はふたたびシロで現れられた．すなわち主はシロで，主の言葉によって，サムエルに自らを現された．こうしてサムエルの言葉は，あまねくイスラエルの人¿に及んだ．

And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

	블레셋과의 전쟁(4:1-4:22)

イスラエルびとは出てペリシテびとと戰おうとして，エベネゼルのほとりに陣をしき，ペリシテびとはアペクに陣をしいた．

ペリシテびとはイスラエルびとにむかって陣備えをしたが，戰うに及んで，イスラエルびとはペリシテびとの前に敗れ，ペリシテびとは戰場において，おおよそ四千人を殺した．

民が陣營に退いた時，イスラエルの長老たちは言った，「なにゆえ，主はきょう，ペリシテびとの前にわれわれを敗られたのか．シロへ行って主の契約の箱をここへ携えてくることにしよう．そして主をわれわれのうちに迎えて，敵の手から救っていただこう」．

そこで民は人をシロにつかわし，ケルビムの上に座しておられる万軍の主の契約の箱を，そこから携えてこさせた．その時エリのふたりの子，ホフニとピネハスは神の契約の箱と共に，その所にいた．

主の契約の箱が陣營についた時，イスラエルびとはみな大聲で叫んだので，地は鳴り響いた．

And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.

And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.

And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.

So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

ペリシテびとは，その叫び聲を聞いて言った，「ヘブルびとの陣營の，この大きな叫び聲は何事か」．そして主の箱が，陣營に着いたことを知った時，

ペリシテびとは恐れて言った，「神¿が陣營にきたのだ」．彼らはまた言った，「ああ，われわれはわざわいである．このようなことは今までなかった．

ああ，われわれはわざわいである．だれがわれわれをこれらの强い神¿の手から救い出すことができようか．これらの神¿は，もろもろの災をもってエジプトびとを荒野で擊ったのだ．

ペリシテびとよ，勇氣を出して男らしくせよ．ヘブルびとがあなたがたに仕えたように，あなたがたが彼らに仕えることのないために，男らしく戰え」．

こうしてペリシテびとが戰ったので，イスラエルびとは敗れて，おのおのその家に逃げて歸った．戰死者はひじょうに多く，イスラエルの步兵で倒れたものは三万であった．

And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.

And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.

Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.

Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.

And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.

また神の箱は奪われ，エリのふたりの子，ホフニとピネハスは殺された．

その日ひとりのベニヤミンびとが，衣服を裂き，頭に土をかぶって，戰場から走ってシロにきた．

彼が着いたとき，エリは道のかたわらにある自分の座にすわって待ちかまえていた．その心に神の箱の事を氣づかっていたからである．その人が町にはいって，情報をつたえたので，町はこぞって叫んだ．

エリはその叫び聲を聞いて言った，「この ¿ぎ聲は何か」．その人は急いでエリの所へきてエリに告げた．

その時エリは九十八歲で，その目は固まって見ることができなかった．

And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.

And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.

And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.

Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.

その人はエリに言った，「わたしは戰場からきたものです．きょう戰場からのがれたのです」．エリは言った，「わが子よ，樣子はどうであったか」．

しらせをもたらしたその人は答えて言った，「イスラエルびとは，ペリシテびとの前から逃げ，民のうちにはまた多くの戰死者があり，あなたのふたりの子，ホフニとピネハスも死に，神の箱は奪われました」．

彼が神の箱のことを言ったとき，エリはその座から，あおむけに門のかたわらに落ち，首を折って死んだ．老いて身が重かったからである．彼のイスラエルをさばいたのは四十年であった．

彼の嫁，ピネハスの妻はみごもって出産の時が近づいていたが，神の箱が奪われたこと，しゅうとと夫が死んだというしらせを聞いたとき，陣痛が起り身をかがめて子を産んだ．

彼女が死にかかっている時，世話をしていた女が彼女に言った，「恐れることはありません．男の子が生れました」．しかし彼女は答えもせず，また顧みもしなかった．

And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?

And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.

And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.

ただ彼女は「榮光はイスラエルを去った」と言って，その子をイカボデと名づけた．これは神の箱の奪われたこと，また彼女のしゅうとと夫のことによるのである．

彼女はまた，「榮光はイスラエルを去った．神の箱が奪われたからです」と言った．

And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.

And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.

	법궤로 인한 블레셋의 재앙(5:1-5:12)

ペリシテびとは神の箱をぶんどって，エベネゼルからアシドドに運んできた．

そしてペリシテびとはその神の箱を取ってダゴンの宮に運びこみ，ダゴンのかたわらに置いた．

アシドドの人¿が，次の日，早く起きて見ると，ダゴンが主の箱の前に，うつむきに地に倒れていたので，彼らはダゴンを起して，それをもとの所に置いた．

その次の朝また早く起きて見ると，ダゴンはまた，主の箱の前に，うつむきに地に倒れていた．そしてダゴンの頭と兩手とは切れて離れ，しきいの上にあり，ダゴンはただ胴體だけとなっていた．

それゆえダゴンの祭司たちやダゴンの宮にはいる人¿は，だれも今日にいたるまで，アシドドのダゴンのしきいを踏まない．

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

そして主の手はアシドドびとの上にきびしく臨み，主は腫物をもってアシドドとその領域の人¿を恐れさせ，また惱まされた．

アシドドの人¿は，このありさまを見て言った，「イスラエルの神の箱を，われわれの所に，とどめ置いてはならない．その神の手が，われわれと，われわれの神ダゴンの上にきびしく臨むからである」．

そこで彼らは人をつかわして，ペリシテびとの君たちを集めて言った，「イスラエルの神の箱をどうしましょう」．彼らは言った，「イスラエルの神の箱はガテに移そう」．人¿はイスラエルの神の箱をそこに移した．

彼らがそれを移すと，主の手がその町に臨み，非常な ¿ぎが起った．そして老若を問わず町の人¿を擊たれたので，彼らの身に腫物ができた．

そこで人¿は神の箱をエクロンに送ったが，神の箱がエクロンに着いた時，エクロンの人¿は叫んで言った，「彼らがイスラエルの神の箱をわれわれの所に移したのは，われわれと民を滅ぼすためである」．

But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

そこで彼らは人をつかわして，ペリシテびとの君たちをみな集めて言った，「イスラエルの神の箱を送り出して，もとの所に返し，われわれと民を滅ぼすことのないようにしよう」．恐ろしい ¿ぎが町中に起っていたからである．そこには神の手が非常にきびしく臨んでいたので，

死なない人は腫物をもって擊たれ，町の叫びは天に達した．

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
