- さて， ある 人たちが ユダヤ から 下ってきて， 兄弟たちに「あなたがたも， モ ― セ の 慣例にしたがって 割禮を 受けなければ， 救われない 」と， 說いていた．
- そこで， パウロ や バルナバ と 彼らとの 間に， 少なからぬ 紛糾と 爭論とが 生じたので， パウロ ， バルナバ そのほか 數人の 者が エルサレム に 上り， 使徒たちや 長老たちと， この 問題について 協議することになった．
- 彼らは 敎會の 人¿に 見送られ， ピニケ ， サマリヤ をとおって， 道すがら， 異邦人たちの 改宗の 模樣をくわしく 說明し， すべての 兄弟たちを 大いに 喜ばせた．
- エルサレム に 着くと， 彼らは 敎會と 使徒たち， 長老たちに 迎えられて， 神が 彼らと 共にいてなされたことを， ことごとく 報告した．
- ところが， パリサイ 派から 信仰にはいってきた 人たちが 立って， 「異邦人にも 割禮を 施し， また モ ― セ の 律法を 守らせるべきである 」と 主張した．

- And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
- When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
- And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
- And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
- But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

- そこで， 使徒たちや 長老たちが， この 問題について 審議するために 集まった．
- 激しい 爭論があった 後， ペテロ が 立って 言った， 「兄弟たちよ， ご 承知のとおり， 異邦人がわたしの 口から 福音の 言葉を 聞いて 信じるようにと， 神は 初めのころに， 諸君の 中からわたしをお 選びになったのである．
- そして， 人の 心をご 存じである 神は， 聖靈をわれわれに 賜わったと 同樣に 彼らにも 賜わって， 彼らに 對してあかしをなし，
- また， その 信仰によって 彼らの 心をきよめ， われわれと 彼らとの 間に， なんの 分けへだてもなさらなかった．
- しかるに， 諸君はなぜ， 今われわれの 先祖もわれわれ 自身も， 負いきれなかったくびきをあの 弟子たちの 首にかけて， 神を 試みるのか．

- And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
- And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
- And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
- And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
- Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

- 確かに， 主 イエス のめぐみによって， われわれは 救われるのだと 信じるが， 彼らとても 同樣である 」．
- すると， 全會衆は 默ってしまった． それから， バルナバ と パウロ とが， 彼らをとおして 異邦人の 間に 神が 行われた 數¿のしるしと 奇跡のことを， 說明するのを 聞いた．
- ふたりが 語り 終えた 後， ヤコブ はそれに 應じて 述べた， 「兄弟たちよ， わたしの 意見を 聞いていただきたい．
- 神が 初めに 異邦人たちを 顧みて， その 中から 御名を 負う 民を 選び 出された 次第は， シメオン がすでに 說明した．
- 預言者たちの 言葉も， それと 一致している． すなわち， こう 書いてある，

- But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
- Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
- And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
- Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
- And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

- 『その 後， わたしは 歸ってきて， ／倒れた ダビデ の 幕屋を 建てかえ， ／くずれた 箇所を 修理し， ／それを 立て 直そう．
- 殘っている 人¿も， ／わたしの 名を 唱えているすべての 異邦人も， ／主を 尋ね 求めるようになるためである．
- 世の 初めからこれらの 事を 知らせておられる 主が， ／こう 仰せになった 』．
- そこで， わたしの 意見では， 異邦人の 中から 神に 歸依している 人たちに， わずらいをかけてはいけない．
- ただ， 偶像に 供えて 汚れた 物と， 不品行と， 絞め 殺したものと， 血とを， 避けるようにと， 彼らに 書き 送ることにしたい．

- After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
- That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
- Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
- Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
- But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

- 古い 時代から， どの 町にも モ ― セ の 律法を 宣べ 傳える 者がいて， 安息日ごとにそれを 諸會堂で 朗讀するならわしであるから 」．
- そこで， 使徒たちや 長老たちは， 全敎會と 協議した 末， お 互の 中から 人¿を 選んで， パウロ や バルナバ と 共に， アンテオケ に 派遣することに 決めた． 選ばれたのは， バルサバ という ユダ と シラス とであったが， いずれも 兄弟たちの 間で 重んじられていた 人たちであった．
- この 人たちに 託された 書面はこうである． 「あなたがたの 兄弟である 使徒および 長老たちから， アンテオケ ， シリヤ ， キリキヤ にいる 異邦人の 兄弟がたに， あいさつを 送る．
- こちらから 行ったある 者たちが， わたしたちからの 指示もないのに， いろいろなことを 言って， あなたがたを ¿がせ， あなたがたの 心を 亂したと 傳え 聞いた．
- そこで， わたしたちは 人¿を 選んで， 愛する バルナバ および パウロ と 共に， あなたがたのもとに 派遣することに， 衆議一決した．

- For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
- Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
- And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.
- Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
- It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

- このふたりは， われらの 主 イエス · キリスト の 名のために， その 命を 投げ 出した 人¿であるが，
- 彼らと 共に， ユダ と シラス とを 派遣する 次第である． この 人たちは， あなたがたに， 同じ 趣旨のことを， 口頭でも 傳えるであろう．
- すなわち， 聖靈とわたしたちとは， 次の 必要事項のほかは， どんな 負擔をも， あなたがたに 負わせないことに 決めた．
- それは， 偶像に 供えたものと， 血と， 絞め 殺したものと， 不品行とを， 避けるということである． これらのものから 遠ざかっておれば， それでよろしい． 以上 」．
- さて， 一行は 人¿に 見送られて， アンテオケ に 下って 行き， 會衆を 集めて， その 書面を 手渡した．

- Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
- For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
- That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
- So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

- 人¿はそれを 讀んで， その 勸めの 言葉をよろこんだ．
- ユダ と シラス とは 共に 預言者であったので， 多くの 言葉をもって 兄弟たちを 勵まし， また 力づけた．
- ふたりは， しばらくの 時を， そこで 過ごした 後， 兄弟たちから， 旅の 平安を 祈られて， 見送りを 受け， 自分らを 派遣した 人¿のところに 歸って 行った．
- 〔しかし， シラス だけは， 引きつづきとどまることにした． 〕
- パウロ と バルナバ とは アンテオケ に 滯在をつづけて， ほかの 多くの 人たちと 共に， 主の 言葉を 敎えかつ 宣べ 傳えた．

- Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
- And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
- And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
- Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
- Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
