- 夜が 明けると， ユダヤ 人らは 申し 合わせをして， パウロ を 殺すまでは 飮食をいっさい 斷つと， 誓い 合った．
- この 陰謀に 加わった 者は， 四十人あまりであった．
- 彼らは， 祭司長たちや 長老たちのところに 行って， こう 言った． 「われわれは， パウロ を 殺すまでは 何も 食べないと， 堅く 誓い 合いました．
- ついては， あなたがたは 議會と 組んで， 彼のことでなお 詳しく 取調べをするように 見せかけ， パウロ をあなたがたのところに 連れ 出すように， 千卒長に 賴んで 下さい． われわれとしては， パウロ がそこにこないうちに 殺してしまう 手はずをしています 」．
- ところが， パウロ の 姉妹の 子が， この 待伏せのことを 耳にし， 兵營にはいって 行って， パウロ にそれを 知らせた．

- And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
- And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
- And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.
- Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
- And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

- そこで パウロ は， 百卒長のひとりを 呼んで 言った， 「この 若者を 千卒長のところに 連れて 行ってください． 何か 報告することがあるようですから 」．
- この 百卒長は 若者を 連れて 行き， 千卒長に 引きあわせて 言った， 「囚人の パウロ が， この 若者があなたに 話したいことがあるので， あなたのところに 連れて 行ってくれるようにと， わたしを 呼んで 賴みました 」．
- そこで 千卒長は， 若者の 手を 取り， 人のいないところへ 連れて 行って 尋ねた， 「わたしに 話したいことというのは， 何か 」．
- 若者が 言った， 「ユダヤ 人たちが， パウロ のことをもっと 詳しく 取調べをすると 見せかけて， あす 議會に 彼を 連れ 出すように， あなたに 賴むことに 決めています．
- どうぞ， 彼らの 賴みを 取り 上げないで 下さい． 四十人あまりの 者が， パウロ を 待伏せしているのです． 彼らは， パウロ を 殺すまでは 飮食をいっさい 斷つと， 堅く 誓い 合っています． そして， いま 手はずをととのえて， あなたの 許可を 待っているところなのです 」．

- Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.
- So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.
- Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
- And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
- But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

- そこで 千卒長は， 「このことをわたしに 知らせたことは， だれにも 口外するな 」と 命じて， 若者を 歸した．
- それから 彼は， 百卒長ふたりを 呼んで 言った， 「步兵二百名， 騎兵七十名， 槍兵二百名を， カイザリヤ に 向け 出發できるように， 今夜九時までに 用意せよ．
- また， パウロ を 乘せるために 馬を 用意して， 彼を 總督 ペリクス のもとへ 無事に 連れて 行け 」．
- さらに 彼は， 次のような 文面の 手紙を 書いた．
- 「クラウデオ · ルシヤ ， つつしんで 總督 ペリクス 閣下の 平安を 祈ります．

- So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.
- And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;
- And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.
- And he wrote a letter after this manner:
- Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

- 本人の パウロ が， ユダヤ 人らに 捕えられ， まさに 殺されようとしていたのを， 彼の ロ ― マ 市民であることを 知ったので， わたしは 兵卒たちを 率いて 行って， 彼を 救い 出しました．
- それから， 彼が 訴えられた 理由を 知ろうと 思い， 彼を 議會に 連れて 行きました．
- ところが， 彼は ユダヤ 人の 律法の 問題で 訴えられたものであり， なんら 死刑または 投獄に 當る 罪のないことがわかりました．
- しかし， この 人に 對して 陰謀がめぐらされているとの 報告がありましたので， わたしは 取りあえず， 彼を 閣下のもとにお 送りすることにし， 訴える 者たちには， 閣下の 前で， 彼に 對する 申立てをするようにと， 命じておきました 」．
- そこで 步兵たちは， 命じられたとおり パウロ を 引き 取って， 夜の 間に アンテパトリス まで 連れて 行き，

- This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.
- And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
- Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
- And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.
- Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

- 翌日は， 騎兵たちに パウロ を 護送させることにして， 兵營に 歸って 行った．
- 騎兵たちは， カイザリヤ に 着くと， 手紙を 總督に 手渡し， さらに パウロ を 彼に 引きあわせた．
- 總督は 手紙を 讀んでから， パウロ に， どの 州の 者かと 尋ね， キリキヤ の 出だと 知って，
- 「訴え 人たちがきた 時に， おまえを 調べることにする 」と 言った． そして， ヘロデ の 官邸に 彼を 守っておくように 命じた．

- On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:
- Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.
- And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;
- I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.
