- すべての 人は， 上に 立つ 權威に 從うべきである． なぜなら， 神によらない 權威はなく， おおよそ 存在している 權威は， すべて 神によって 立てられたものだからである．
- したがって， 權威に 逆らう 者は， 神の 定めにそむく 者である． そむく 者は， 自分の 身にさばきを 招くことになる．
- いったい， 支配者たちは， 善事をする 者には 恐怖でなく， 惡事をする 者にこそ 恐怖である． あなたは 權威を 恐れないことを 願うのか． それでは， 善事をするがよい． そうすれば， 彼からほめられるであろう．
- 彼は， あなたに 益を 與えるための 神の 僕なのである． しかし， もしあなたが 惡事をすれば， 恐れなければならない．� ″はいたずらに 劍を 帶びているのではない． 彼は 神の 僕であって， 惡事を 行う 者に 對しては， 怒りをもって 報いるからである．
- だから， ただ 怒りをのがれるためだけではなく， 良心のためにも 從うべきである．

- Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
- Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
- For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
- For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
- Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

- あなたがたが 貢を 納めるのも， また 同じ 理由からである． 彼らは 神に 仕える 者として， もっぱらこの 務に 携わっているのである．
- あなたがたは， 彼らすべてに 對して， 義務を 果しなさい． すなわち， 貢を 納むべき 者には 貢を 納め， 稅を 納むべき 者には 稅を 納め， 恐るべき 者は 恐れ， 敬うべき 者は 敬いなさい．
- 互に 愛し 合うことの 外は， 何人にも 借りがあってはならない． 人を 愛する 者は， 律法を 全うするのである．
- 「姦淫するな， 殺すな， 盜むな， むさぼるな 」など， そのほかに， どんな 戒めがあっても， 結局「自分を 愛するようにあなたの 隣り 人を 愛せよ 」というこの 言葉に 歸する．
- 愛は 隣り 人に 害を 加えることはない． だから， 愛は 律法を 完成するものである．

- For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
- Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
- Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
- For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
- Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

- なお， あなたがたは 時を 知っているのだから， 特に， この 事を 勵まねばならない． すなわち， あなたがたの 眠りからさめるべき 時が， すでにきている． なぜなら 今は， わたしたちの 救が， 初め 信じた 時よりも， もっと 近づいているからである．
- 夜はふけ， 日が 近づいている． それだから， わたしたちは， やみのわざを 捨てて， 光の 武具を 着けようではないか．
- そして， 宴樂と 泥醉， 淫亂と 好色， 爭いとねたみを 捨てて， ¿步くように， つつましく 步こうではないか．
- あなたがたは， 主 イエス · キリスト を 着なさい． 肉の 欲を 滿たすことに 心を 向けてはならない．

- And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
- The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
- Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
- But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
